The ballet is performed by either amateurs or dancers who have not rehearsed enough. The backdrop of the temple and the magical setting, beautiful costumes and a few gimmicks cannot be a substitute for a good performance. The stage is anyway quite far from whichever...More

Ramayana Ballet was interesting and colourful. We experienced it at the open air theatre and enjoyed it. The almost 2 hours show was a good way to spend the evening.

What a great show (saw the full story). Fantastic views of Prambanan at night (and if you're lucky, the moon as well). Costumes are beautiful and show is well put together! And there's two monitors that tell you in English and in Bahasar what the...More

I’m sure that if you’re into the Indonesian culture and saga’s, this would be a great show for you. For me however too much of a culture shock, both the Ballet as well as the music. It’s the Indonesian version of an opera but hard...More

A wonderful theatrical production of traditional art, music and storytelling. A bit of a stretch to call it ballet. Nevertheless a truly interesting performance. The stage is set at the Prambanan Temple which is illuminated for the performance, offering a stunning visual aspect. The ballet...More

We had luck in June 2019 to see the full Ramayana Ballet (>2hrs). The ballet was spectacular, however, some knowledge about the plot would be advisable before visiting the show, otherwise, you could find it not understandable. Some explanations about the story are running on...More

The Ramayana story is to the Indonesians what Romeo and Juliet are to the Westerners. The ballet was more like theater than just dance. The setting is wonderful. The temple is lit up at night and is the backdrop. I took a lot of videos...More

The Ramayana story was well presented on a fantastic stage with the actual prambanan temples beautifully lit-up against the night sky as the backdrop. The music, commentary and the choreographed dance movements of almost a 100 artistes was enjoyable.
