    Good exercise
This is one free activity to do that will take up a bit of time, plus burn some fat so that you can eat more after that. The hike was easy. The stones might be slippery when it rains but i was there on a warm dry morning in spring so it is okay. There was stairways at some parts of it. The view up there is nice. You see the river, palace of the grand duke and vilnius city.

    Panoramic View
Caught a funicular for 1 euro (one way) up to the castle tower. The panoramic view from the top was excellent. Most of Vilnius can be viewed. We left via the stairs rather than take the funicular. One can go up the castle itself for a fee but we didn't feel the need to do so. Well worth a visit,

    Magnificent View of Old Town
It is one of the best places to see the best places to see the magnificent panoramas of Vilnius. Moderate hike to climb the hill, but it's worth it. What a spectacular view. Go see the sunset, the red roof of Vilnius, the church towers, and the narrow streets of Medieval Old Town. It is the symbol of Vilnius and is visible from many spots in the Old Town.

    A must-see site in Vilnius
Of course, a visit to Vilnius is incomplete without visiting the castle and ascending the tower. One can take the funicular up, or if one has the energy, one can walk up the hill. Nice views of the city from all directions at the top.

    Gediminas Castle Tower
The symbol of Vilnius is visible from many spots in the Old Town and is portrayed in numerous works of art. It is one of the best places to see the magnificent panoramas of Vilnius. The red roofs of Vilnius, the church towers, and the narrow streets of the Medieval Old Town are a stunning sight.

Excellent vantage point of Old Town and new city skyline
Highly recommend ascending to at least the base of the tower for the best views of both the Old Town and the new city. In fact, it's one of the best cityscapes I've seen in Europe. There's an entrance ticket to the tower itself, including the roof where the flagpole is. It offers better views and includes admission to a small museum, but the museum is nothing fancy and takes 15 minutes to complete.

    Really worth a visit
Great views! We took the funicular which costs €2 per adult for a return journey. This is so worth the cost as the stairs up look steep! Not much to do other than take great photos over the city of the new town and the old town. We didn't go into the castle tower. Go round the left side of the cathedral building (as you stand facing the front) and you will find the entrance for the funicular - it's not that easy to find! Entrance up the stairs is in the park.

Lots of history with great views
I visited in June this year whilst in Lithuania and you can visit for free if you go on the last Sunday of the month, normally the tower is 6 euro's . They were doing some restoration but most if it was open. It's really worth a visit. You can either walk up for free or take the lift for a charge. Amazing history and views over Vilnius

This is a fantastic castle tower, overwatching the entire city.
While the climb to the castle and tower is somehow strenuous, you can either use the funicular or just enjoy the view from below.

Highly recommend. Went there with the funicular to save time to catch the sunset and it was well worth it. There was written something that the visit to the tower is paid but actually there was no one collecting money there and the door was just open so I don't know if it was just on that day or because it was around 18 o'clock. It is really worth it to climb the tower to where the Lithuania flag is. You will get even better views. I liked it more than the hill of three crosses, because there the view was very much blocked by trees.

You can walk up the steep hill this tower sits on for free. I was surprised how good it is for a view over the old town. The entrance is on the east side near the river. The first part of the uphill walk is on uneven cobbles. Those could be tricky if they are wet. I'd suggest using the electric funicular around the corner if you don't like the look of that section.

I paid to enter the tower too. There's a good, short, projected video showing the history of the tower that loops on one of the floors. This is clearer and more interesting if you listen to the audio which is available on earphones at the back of the room. Another floor has an interactive exhibit showing the professions and tools of people from century's past - this felt more aimed at children. There's a narrow staircase which has tall steps for one section to get to the top of the tower. The view from the top isn't much different from the free area around the base of the tower.

We took the funicular up (and back down) to the tower, only 2 euro. We didn't go into the tower but just enjoyed the view. One side was old Vilnius, the other side new Vilnius with office blocks and modern architecture.

Largely reconstructed tower, what we liked the most was the view from the top of the hill, inside nothing particular.
