- Cat220319 contributionsStunning!Simply stunning building with an excellent selection of rugs from different regions in Morocco. We spent 2 hours marvelling at the artefacts and the building itself. Definitely worth the 30 MAD entry fee, best value for money in town, in my view. Highly recommended!Visited March 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 20 March 2023
- k9whippetsEdinburgh, United Kingdom17 contributionsRecommend a visitWell worth a visit. An absolute gem. Beautifully laid out and so much easier to enjoy than the larger attractions that were far too crowded. The tile work was stunning and a wonderful array of the many types and styles of Moroccan & Berber carpets.Visited March 2023Travelled soloWritten 26 March 2023
- LexiVCleveland, Ohio919 contributionsBeautiful PalaceIf you liked Bahia Palace but not the crowds, then this is the perfect place for you. The carpets are lovely, but the building is much better. I was able to enter for free and was told that it's because women are free on Wednesdays, but the price was very reasonable anyway, and I think it may actually have been because the Wednesday I happened to visit was International Women's Day. This is very close to Bahia Palace and while smaller it's also much more enjoyable because there are no crowds. It is just as beautiful as the more famous palace.Visited March 2023Travelled soloWritten 11 April 2023

Only Mad 30 each. Courtyard so pretty and peaceful. Lots of well kept carpets. History displayed on video with commentary. Similar to Bahia palace, Ben Youssef Madersa , Dar el Bacha , Badi palace mosaics- go to all these too!Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 14 April 2023

Closed. Feb. 9 sign on door says closed for restoration. A nearby shop keeper said it had been damaged in the September 2023 earthquake. Looks like it will reopen after restoration.

The museum now lists itself as the weaving and carpet museum and that accurately describes it. In addition to the excellent displays, the building itself is a treasure.

This museum is a MUST! Beautiful architecture and incredible collection of rugs from different regions in Morocco. Even if you know nothing about rugs you will be captivated by their beauty! Not crowded.

This place is a little gem hidden in a backstreet but well worth a visit. The building is among the most beautiful in Marrakesh with a spectacular ceiling on the 2nd floor that took our breath away. The museum shows different types of rug and how they are made and it’s an easy stroll through the exhibits. There’s a pleasant courtyard to enjoy and the best thing about this place is how quiet it is there, we almost had the place to ourselves. What a contrast to the Bahia Palace which was heaving and not quite as pretty.

Is the museum open yet? Can’t find info or a number to call to check. Thanks.

The museum was open in September, I visited it on the 7th. as the weaving and carpet museum. Unless it was forced to close long term because of earthquake damage you should find it open. Closed in the aftermath of the earthquake were the Bahia Palace, Badi Palace and Saadian Tombs, in an area which suffered more damage. I hope they have reopened now. They are all fairly close together in easy walking distance of each other so it really is a case of checking things out in Marrakech.

Quanto tempo occorre per visitare il sito?
grazie!

Almeno 2 ore, merita sicuramente dedicarci più tempo possibile: le parti visitabili sono diverse e in 2 ore vedi bene solo la parte più visitata. Meglio dedicarci una mezza giornata, ne vale sicuramente la pena.

Is this site closed for long term renovations?

It depends on what you mean by “long-term”. We were there in January and some rooms where still accessible (although there was nothing in them other than the wonderful walls and ceilings). The garden/courtyard was certainly closed for renovations then.
