October is a good time to visit as the weather is not too hot for a stroll. The scenery is splendid with ponds/ lakes with lotus leaves. Some flowers are still in bloom during first week of October. The park is big but there are...More

To see the ruins you need to walk a long walk to another entrance. Just follow the crowd when in doubt. Enjoy the park sceneries. There were some areas without many people for photo taking. It is a scenic area after all. Worth the visit....More

Enjoyed this summer palace more than the new one. When we arrived in the afternoon from the new summer palace, it was calmer with fewer people. Lots of lotus planted in the surrounding waters, it was a rather memorable experience going through these 'lotus forest'...More

This was a relaxing area but mostly empty because the palace was burned down. The palace ruins that are remaining were interesting to see and the lotus waterways were pretty. If you have time it is worth coming here but don't put it high on...More

We bought a ticket, which included the park and the ruins. The park was beautiful; big areas with waterlilies, willows everywhere and old bridges build in Chinese style. However, the park was enormous and the ruins were places in the other end of the park....More

We went here after our visit to Summer Place. They are both located in the north-western part of Beijing City. It was a bit of walk from entrance to the legacy of the burning sites so get prepared. Along the walk, there are some local...More

I was so excited to head over to the Old Summer Palace after visiting so many of the other historic locations here in China and Beijing. The grounds, as many mentioned, were beautiful, although a bit overgrown in many areas. There were a ton of...More
