This is a definite must go to!
We booked a guide from the tourism office in the center of town. Though it was really easy to get here, it was very helpful to have a guide explain the place and the culture and reasoning behind...More
Come visit the hanging coffins of Sagada if you are staying in town or even if you are passing by from Banaue. I hope you get a good guide to tour you around. We got a tour guide after registering at the Dept of Tourism...More
To label the coffins at the base of echo valley as 'the hanging coffins of sagada' is nonsensical, as there are hanging coffins literally scattered through the entire area, you just need to know where to look. This listing references the most famous group of...More
Our visit to "The Hanging Coffins of Sagada" was definitely something not to be missed whilst in the area. Our guide (and I'm gutted that I can't remember her name) was so informative about the hanging coffins and even showed us where her Uncle's coffin...More

Pleasant hike through Echo Valley to get to the Hanging Coffins.
Make sure to have a guide that has a fair knowledge of the history and the method behind the practice. We picked up our guide from the Tourism Center directly.
We visited Sagada as part of our Luzon tour. It is a ways out of the way - past Banaue, but is a good day trip. The hanging coffins are in multiple locations, but there is really only one place to get close to them....More

Sagada is a very small town. We walked there with a guide. There are only a handful of hotel options in Sagada. Wherever you stay, you should be able to walk. Wear good shoes and have a good breakfast. The climb down is fine, but it's the steps back up that make your legs really work. Enjoy!

I wouldn't recommend trying to do a tour from Banaue to Sagada in one day. You should stop in Bontoc and take in the wonderful museum (give it at least one hour) and then get to Sagada with a jeepney, and do a tour of the coffins and a hike the day after. Make sure you register at the tourist office in Sagada and hire a guide. They will not allow you by the coffins without a guide (very inexpensive), and anyway you'll learn a lot more about the customs. Make sure you also visit the wonderful museum in Sagada and go to the Masferre restaurant not only for the chicken but to see the fantastic Masferre photographs of the indigenous tribes.
