The best time to visit is March and April when the orchids are all in bloom and I was visiting in August. Nonetheless I really enjoyed this tour. It was quiet and peaceful. A nice place for a picnic lunch. There were a few orchids...More

This is well worth a visit! Beautiful place and not real expensive. We loved it! The orchids were magnificent and there were many and varied gardens to see!

Spent a morning walking around and taking pictures of the different flowers. We went the last week in March and I feel the flowers would be a little better if we waited a week. Overall the park is nice with good walking trails and a...More

Jardín Botánico Lankester is a total gem. I have visited many times over the years and I can recommend it to anybody. Even if you're not that interested in exotic plants, it's just a lovely place to spend some time. The easy walkways wander through...More

Lankester is a beautiful garden and a must see for sure. Just a short 1 hour drive from San Jose, I’d suggest combining it with a drive up to the Irazu Volcano..... it will make a nice one day excursion. If you like bamboo they...More

This is a very pleasant garden just outside Cartago (an easy taxi ride). It was looking a bit dusty when we were there because of the long period of dryness. It contains several specialised areas, including one small orchid greenhouse. There is also a fern...More

This garden really did not have much to offer, nice pathway through a natural garden, but very few flowers and really not worth the price of admission...

I am a big fan of botanical gardens and I did enjoy my visit, but relative to botanical gardens generally, this place is just ok. Getting here is truly a pain, congestion on the Cartago highway is mind numbing and the area overall is quite...More

Superbly landscaped and we'll maintained, this beautiful garden about 30 km south of San Jose has 1,000 orchid species with many in bloom, a nice Japanese garden, large sections of cactii, ferns, palms, bromeliads, heliconias, and some of the tallest bamboo I have seen.

We headed there from San Jose which wasn’t a long drive maybe 1/2 hours. Before arriving we drove through town and stopped to see the Ruins of an old church that they stopped building. It’s beautiful inside with a water fountain and animals. It’s definitely...More

The distance is 40 to 50 miles. The trip would not normally take very long but it depends on the traffic. If you're in a rental car street signs and traffic signs do not exist. You will need to rent a road mate or similar... More
