After our modest 200 LEK entrance our guide enthusiastically showed us this house. Unfortunately no English was spoken and we had to keep up with a rapid machine gun French. This is An absolute must see and it’s worthwhile reading up before your visit as...More

The fortified horses of the Ottoman Era are the reason UNESCO designated Gjirokaster. This house dates from 1700's and survived on great condition because it was a museum on the Communist era. The original family of 9 generations now maintains it.

Of the two houses we visited, this was by far the best. Absolutely take the tour. The tour guide was very informative and helped us to comprehend what we were seeing.

The house is well kept and can still see items from the times where the Hixha family used to live here, this is a great demonstration of the Ottoman influence in Albania.

We really enjoyed our tour to Skenduli House, the oldest house in Gjirokastra. The guide was very informative and amazed us with the details and secrets the house kept. A must see if you are visiting Gjirokastra.

Very interesting house showing the traditional architecture during Ottoman times. The people are going out of their way to provide interesting explanations in different languages. If you only visit one house, this should be it!

Interesting place to visit, but the guided tour was only 10 minutes and we didn’t feel welcome at all.

I really enjoyed my visit to the Skenduli House. Whilst we only had a short visit, our guide displayed her in-depth knowledge of the house. For only 200LEK, it's a really great way to spend an afternoon - and a great introduction to Ottoman History...More
