- jamiecSRQBradenton, Florida194 contributionsA Must SeeMy daughter, 9, and I had a great experience at SCAD. The staff is top notch! Plus, this museum has one the coolest kid activities bags I have ever seen. If you go with kids, ask for the activity bag. It was a sketchbook, colored pencils, sensory items, a scavenger hunt and activity sheet. The exhibits are appealing to adults and children, and we really enjoyed our time at SCAD Beach.Visited March 2023Travelled with familyWritten 26 March 2023
- DLPNew Jersey1,949 contributionsAll Forms of ArtWe visited Savannah to attend Scad Day and the tour started at the Museum. It was not what I expected. I envisioned more of an art gallery with pictures/paintings on the wall. This was not the case. It was all different types of art modalities. It was fun, entertaining and interactive.Visited February 2023Travelled with familyWritten 28 March 2023
- MlstarFort Lee, New Jersey68 contributionsSmall Museum. Big Art. Great visit. Go here.Small museum, displaying rotating exhibitions of contemporary art. Very well curated. All of the art was both new, yet felt accessible. (so don't let the contemporary label discourage you if you are used to a greatest hits style museum). Building itself is a very interesting conversion of an old railroad station. Student staff were all helpful and enthusiastic. Really enjoyed our visit on a rainy day. Add this to any stop in Savannah. You don't need more than an hour.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 December 2023
- owlbeonholidayWorcester, United Kingdom866 contributionsTalented artists.Fantastic modern art museum with some truly incredible pieces. Obviously showcasing some major talent. They regularly rotate exhibitions so quite a bit of the space was closed off for this on our visit, which was a shame. Still, the art that we did see was fantastic and there is a large sculpture and beach in the courtyard outside. Also, very friendly students happy to offer information.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 January 2024

Great tour of the campus! A really impressive college that has transformed downtown Savannah. Lots of majors. Stunning facilities and grounds.

Lovely exhibits, but the constant surveillance made it difficult to enjoy the experience. I’ve been to many art museums. Never have I ever had someone follow me around like that. The security was over the top.

Short gallery but enjoyed this museum with our large family of nine. Appreciated the family rate, which made it much more affordable.

Very disappointed in this facility. A limited number of artists' work (four) were represented and none appeared to be from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). We did not see any information that clearly indicated if these artists were a part of SCAD. It would have been a much more interesting and valuable experience if many more of the student artists' work from the SCAD were showcased. We enjoy modern art having visited many MOMA's, but the limited quantity of art in this facility would not place this high on our list of activities to chose from while visiting Savannah.

We came for gallery talks on fascinating contemporary artists who were in residence. The exhibits are beautifully done. I’m impressed by the huge turnout of actual students. Needless to say, their clothing had a lot to say (if I’m not being superficial).
I appreciate this wonderful resource for visitors.

I was wondering if the exhibits would be interesting to a 12 year old boy or should I send my hubby and son off while I do the museum ??

I agree that this is a good art museum for families-not just galleries of paintings. That said, some twelve year old boys might not find this as interesting as other outdoor activities in the area.

How much is admission to the museum. Also does the actual college give tours? I know they do for the prospective students but what about tourist?
Lauren M

I don't recall the price of admission. The museum is open to the public, no SCAD connection is necessary. They have student docents who approach you if you look bewildered and have questions, and they're a great resource. It's clear they love what they do. Another treasure for Savannah!
