- ZB72Adelaide, Australia75 contributionsbeautiful temple on the side of a lake in the mountainsWe rode scooters from Ubud following a local guide. It was about a 2 -3 hour scooter ride each way, some busy streets as you leave Ubud. Great places to take photos of the lake/ temple and mountains, quite busy with tourists. 75,000 Rp per person there is food and drinks available, many different areas to take photos of the viewVisited February 2023Written 8 April 2023
- Mark C-Belgium149 contributionsA great day tripThis is a place to ensure to see while in Bali. This is a large temple complex nd gardens. It was 90 minutes from Ubud, but well worth the visit. Ensure to have a driver to get you there and back. The grounds are beautiful and gardens immaculate. You can easily spend 2 hours here walking around and see the sights. There different options for food as well and plenty of clean restroom facilities. Many tourists and local visit with families and plenty of things for kids to do and keep them occupied.Visited May 2023Written 20 May 2023
- Bob GiannaMontreal, Canada64 contributionsOne of the most beautiful places of BaliThis temple is probably one the top sight to visit of Bali. It takes about 2-3 hours from Ubud while you enjoy the views of the beautiful rice fields and the strawberry fields nearby. Be sure to come early in order to avoid crowds. The temple is located next to a lake which give a peaceful vibe. There's many beautiful spots to take pictures and also feel the peace which cleans your soul. It's an ideal place to learn about and feel Balinese culture, unlike another place which is too crowded because of some pictures on Instagram. There's a park and a playground for kids which you can enjoy. Make sure to plan a date for that beautiful temple. You can also go to some waterfalls on your way.Visited April 2023Travelled soloWritten 5 July 2023
- JonofromcasCastleford, United Kingdom1,436 contributionsPretty but very busy templeThis is a very popular destination and there were many visitors all trying to get photo shots of the floating temple. It is pretty and the lawns are looked after, but elements are a bit tacky such as the pedaloes on the lake. There are toilet facilities which were awash with water and not particularly clean even though you had to pay to use them.Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 July 2023
- luvholiday9Singapore, Singapore439 contributionsbeautiful temple on the lakeUlun danu beratan was the first stop of our North Bali tour. Being up north meant a very comfortable temperature at 21 degrees on a tropical island. The temple was set beautifully on a lake and there were many spots to take photos. We took a sampan ride around the temple and it was a quiet moment amongst the crowds. The air was fresh and we enjoyed the beauty of nature. There were many beautiful sights around and food stalls. Crowded with tourists but worth a visit if doing a North bali tour.Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 July 2023
- Dan LBunbury, Australia7,494 contributionsNamed after the water Goddess Danu. This has to be one of the most photographed temples in Bali and does provide a great backdrop for the many tourists visiting the area. It dates to 1633 and is dedicated to the Hindu Gods Brajma, Vishnu, Shiva and Dewi Danu who is the goddess of the lake. The temple is highly significant in Balinese life and the most important temple in the area.Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 31 August 2023
- Don TBrisbane, Australia253 contributionsWorth the Look and photoInteresting place with a mixture of temples, the lake and a theme park It is all of that and more. The gardens and flowers are great, but it is very crowded with people and I mean crowded. It is a beautiful area and the lake is brilliant to see and so much cooler than down along the coastal areas.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 September 2023
- JaseYork, United Kingdom25 contributionsBeautiful place, but incredibly busy - it’s like a theme park!Beautiful place, architecture, views and entertainment everywhere. You could realistically spend a whole day here if you wanted to. Restaurant and cafe prices are reasonable, the kids play area is great, you’ve seen the photos - now go visit! Points to note - they charge to use the toilet, 2,000 rupiahs a go, so take plenty of small notes as they may not have change. The main entrance fee is just for entry. Every other attraction costs pretty much. Tourists arrive by the bus load - it is busy. But because it’s so big it doesn’t feel unmanageable busy. Imagine almost Disney World kind of busy and you’re about there. It’s just a bit cooler as there’s a nice breeze from the lake. Thoroughly recommend!Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 8 October 2023
- Larry MVientiane, Laos1,387 contributionsGorgeous grounds and temples!Situated on a massive lake beneath central Bali mountains, this expansive attraction of gardens and temples is a great family or couples location. Very clean, well maintained and pictures plenty for instagram shutterbugs. Breezes off the lake make the heat tolerable. Shouldn’t miss.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 November 2023
- Branco AZaanstad, The Netherlands28 contributionsBeautiful location! What a beautiful location. The site has many Instagram photo locations where there are lines to take photos. We didn't do that. We went straight to the Temple on the Water. Fortunately, it is not busy there. Beautiful how this is built in with the lake as a backdrop. Glad we went here.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 November 2023

Beautiful park. Beautiful surroundings. Big area. The temples were as we expected. Clean and quiet. Lots of people. Shade. Everything costs extra - even the toilet.
We had a buffet at a restaurant which we did not like. It did not seem like it was cooked nor stored properly. We were affraid to contage “Bali stomace” and one of us did.

we departed ubud at 6:30 am in order to be one of the first visitors at the temple after 8 am. the morning light made the temple shimmer against the serene mountains and lake backdrop.
this is probably my favorite temple in the entire bali island, leaps and bounds ahead of other more well-known ones e.g. uluwatu, tanah lot.
most importantly, no crowds in the early hour. as we left 1.5h later, at least 20 tour buses filled with day trippers have started arriving en masse.

We were here on a rainy afternoon, even with every thing drenched with the downpour, the views and ambience were amazing! parking and facilities are pretty nice, with the shops and food joints helping manage the umbrella and hot beverage.

Don’t be deceived by photos of stunning temples at sunset. The reality is more an Instagram/kitsch bad dream. To be fair, the gardens around the temples are very nice and there was a good music/dance performance while we were there. However, the overall experience is rather ruined by unnecessary side shows that give this place a gaudy tourist trap vibe. The temples themselves are pretty but you can’t get away from the feeling that the Balinese tourist authority has been advised on how to care for its temples by the Kardashians. Just get rid of all yhe crap!! Overall, this place is probably still worth a visit but don’t expect any kind of magical experience.

A very peaceful place. The temple and garden are well kept and maintained. The only drawback is their dirty and smelly toilet considering they charge sn amount for maintenance

Must visit while in Bali. This is such an iconic temple that the photo of the ulun danu bretan is used by many travel magazines, it has become the symbol of Bali. It is a unesco world heritage site. The vibes are wonderful. We got free water bottles ( this was the only place in Bali during our week long stay where we got free water)It is well maintained and we had lunch at the eatery in the compound.

The Ulun Danu Beratan is a well-known Hindu Temple that was built in the 1600's as an open-air place of worship. In fact, this Temple has become a famous landmark for Bali and Indonesia. Many publications about Bali use photos of this Temple because it has become a symbol of Bali. The Temple is so important to Bali and the Indonesian culture that UNESCO has designated this historic place as a World Heritage Site.
The Ulun Danu Beratan Temple was built on a large lake, Lake Bratan. The grounds area at this Temple is immaculate - just like a superbly manicured botanical garden. The area is lush with plenty of beautiful vegetation - very photogenic area. This Temple is a must place to see when visiting Bali Indonesia.

Must visit temple in bali. One of the best temple we have visited in Bali. This is part of our 3 day tours. Beautiful landscape, nice garden and we able to walk around the temple as the water is low.

The Ulun Danu Bratan Temple on the lake is still very beautiful. In 2008 the temple stood here all alone. Now in 2023, a village with souvenir shops, playground, water pedellos, etc. has been built around it, which diminishes the uniqueness for us. A whole series of bus parks and car parks have been constructed. You used to be here alone.

Hi! Is it possible to go to this temple by grab or gojek bike and also is it possible to get back with the same service while returning from there?
Thanks!

Better get a car rental for a day, its hassle free and no need to worry for your ride.. we only took grab on nearby places in ubud.
Grab is not allowed in some places. Also local taxis are against them.

Hi!!! Does this place charge for foreigners? If yes what would be price per person? What's the taxi price to travel from Ubud to here?
Thanks in advance !!!

Yes.. they charge foreigners.. per ticket cost is 50,000 IDR. Not sure about the taxi fare but it might be costly as ulun bratan temple is in the hills, quite far from the city. But I am not sure about the fare.
Do I have to visit the temple with a guide/tour or is it possible doing it by myself? And if that’s possible, is there any entry quote ?

If you have a tour program to the Ulundanu temple..you may not use the guide and the entry quote it is certain
Ciao, per visitare i templi bisogna per forza farlo con un tour o si può fare anche per conto proprio? E se si fa senza tour bisogna pagare qualche ingresso ?

Puoi farlo in autonomia tranquillamente. Quasi tutti i templi più famosi sono a pagamento ma sono cifre irrisorie.. una manciata di euro per intenderci ..

How did you get from Seminyak to the Temple? Is it reasonably safe to hire a car ?
Andrew
Phnom Penh, Cambodia655 contributions
I wouldn’t hire a car. The roads are pretty choked and can be dangerous if you don’t know where you’re going.
Easiest thing to do is hire a private taxi for the day. R100k/hour is the standard rate which you can arrange through your hotel/guesthouse.
Better yet, contact the guy we used. Dewa.
+62 852 38085646
If you’re staying in Seminyak though and you are going out touring for the day, just make sure you’re back well before dark. The roads around there get completely jammed with tour buses etc. in the evening. It can take over two hours just to get back into Seminyak from Tanah Lot, for example. Hope this helps and have a great holiday.

There is no particular time for this temple.. the temple's inner round may have time which is not displayed outside., but the other areas are open throughout.
Can I do any kind of worship or puja inside the temple?

there were quite a number of visitors - all taking pictures- But there are quiet places within the grounds . Also there seemed to be a part that was closed off – so you may be able to worship there assuming You have the right form of dress. Hope that helps
