The whole Madara Archeological Reserve is very cool. The Madara Rider is the most impressive piece, and an important national monument, and it's front and center when you get here. Easy to see once you climb a few steps and surrounded by a beautiful park-like...More

The fact that it is the only rock relief in Europe since the early Middle Ages makes it significant. However, I got a little angry when I read what it says on the sign under the bas-relief. There it says that the inscription around the...More

A mystical place, proud of being Bulgarians. Unique nature with many caves and panoramic views. The walk takes about 3 hours without haste, with access to the fortress being particularly extreme. A must-visit place.

We went at the end of the day so had the place to ourselves. The sculpture is worth a quick look see, but more interesting are the caves. Lovely and peaceful place in the woods

Hope that there would be a way to get it more accessible in a way to see it closer without touching it. Since it’s quite far, you barely see the art if you can call that way. However, it’s still worth a visit as you...More

Have to walk up many steps or a winding path to reach the Madara Rider. I you choose the steps rather a steep climb. If you choose the path there is a lovely small shrine enroute. On arrival at the Madara Rider which is carved...More

A couple of days AFTER visiting this place, we realized how important the Horseman is to the Bulgarian identity. I'm very glad we did visit :))
