We decided to stop over at Wieskirche on the way back from Neuschwanstein Castle. Parking is very convenient and is only Euro 2.00. There is a tourist information place with restrooms. The church itself is a UNESCO world heritage site and is beautifully decorated. The...More

I wanted to stop here as we were in the area driving from Fussen to Munich. It is said that, in 1738, tears were seen on a wooden figure of the Scourged Saviour. This miracle resulted in a pilgrimage rush to see the sculpture and...More

Typical to churches in Bavaria, the outer appearance looks rather plain (unlike those magnificent Gothic churches found elsewhere), but once entering, you will be greeted by a bright interior and intricately decorated and painted in Baroque style. This church in particular is a quite spectacular...More

In an area that is brim-full of palaces, churches and so on Wies Church stands out as a "must see". The location in an unspoilt Alpine valley begs the question why is it here? but the inexpensive guidebook (3 Euro available in several languages) explains...More

One of the loveliest churches in Germany, if not Europe -- breathtaking rococo ornamentation, light and airy but gorgeous to behold. Our kids were amazed, as was I despite having visited here in the past.

Standing in contrast to the Gothic and Roman Cathedrals of Frankfurt, Cologne and Trier The Pilgrimage Church of Wies appears as a bright white structure on approach of Steingaden, the relatively humble exterior in no way preparing visitors for the glorious Rococco spectacle inside. Built...More

We visited this church on our way back from the Ludwig castles. This is an amazing UNESCO church that I was glad we were able to visit because it is in the middle of nowhere and without our guide, I'm not sure we would have...More

As others have noted, while this church is relatively plain on the outside, it is an incredible example of German Rococco on the inside. It's about a 30min drive from Fussen (between Fussen and Munich) and worth the time. During our early June 2019 visit,...More

A beautiful 18-century Rococo pilgramage church. I'm not religious (too skeptical me) but I love churches and cathedrals for their peace. And maybe i'm searching for a faith I've never felt, I don't know. But, I cried at Wieskirche, to think of the devotion it...More

The outside of this church does NOT match the inside, by any means! You think you are going in to a simple church built by and for the local farmers. Prepare yourself before entering. It is like a mini Vatican in there. A hidden gem...More

Like a few others, I too had rented a car for the sole purpose of being able to take side trips like this during our planned stops (In this case our drive from Fussen to Salzburg). With that said, I do believe that there is... More
