Do you like castles? This is a very good one
Sep 2021
This was one of the best castles of its type that we have visited. To anybody who says that it is expensive, we would say join English heritage and all thse places are free.We purchased a guide book,it definitely enhanced our experience. The approach to and tghe entrance of the keep was stunning. The whole of the keep was very much worth a visit

Stunning Medieval Castle in a key strategic position
Sep 2021
Castle: Fascinating ruins of a once noble castle, clearly etched into the fabric of the town and landscape. Magnificent walls and a grand keep dominate the surrounding countryside and the defensive position of the castle site is clearly determinable. Very knowledgeable staff made this visit even more worth while, and their input made the visit even more memorable. Pity that the Hermitage was not accessible. No tea-room on site limits the length of visit, but there are plenty of good places for refreshment in the town.

Disappointed
Sep 2021 • Friends
Eager to visit this attraction but disappointed with site and cost. Yes, it is in ruins, but the information boards were so old they were blank, so quickly lost interest. Think the best option is audio. Guides inadequate, as one was asked where the stone came from to build the Castle and replied, I haven’t a clue! Paid £33.40 for 4 people.

Love the castle & the hermitage
Sep 2021 • Solo
Had an excellent visit. Loved going to the hermitage in the little rowing boat. The guide was very knowledgeable & the chapel incredible to think it has all been carved out of the rocks

Great Castle
Aug 2021
We were staying in Warkworth and this well-preserved medieval castle dominated the landscape. We booked and paid for the first slot available at 10.00am. The cross-shaped keep was spectacular and the walls were nearly intact. We could see the lion badge of the Percy family as we explored the castle. We wandered round about an hour in the sunshine taking photos. Audio guides were available but we were happy to explore without them. We could use some of the stairways to enter into several rooms in which we got some great countryside and sea views. A must do.

Its a Castle so expect ruins!
Sep 2021
This is my 2nd visit to the castle. This time, I came with wife and 7yo daughter.
Was greeted heartily by the staff and was made to feel really welcome.
We received an activity book which the little one was delighted with. This was not a typical one page sheet, this was in the style of a detective workbook and was fun to complete.
The castle is very much a ruin and there is no decor, etc - just walls.
Some picturesque views at high points were stunning and made for great photo opportunities.
I got some sense of what life was like in the castle but because each room was just a ruin with stone walls, it was hard to get enthused from room to room as it was just that - stone walls with the odd feature.
But still quite appealing and takes you around 2 hours to traverse.

Ok
Aug 2021
This was ok, I prefer a castle which has some recreated rooms indoors. This was more of a ruin so for me felt a bit overpriced for what it was but the grounds were lovely.

A great castle to visit
Aug 2021 • Friends
A great castle to explore. The main keep still has the lower floors allowing you to use the stairs halls and passages as the inhabitants would have. The audio guides are useful, although some improvement to information boards would have been welcome.

Don’t miss the Hermitage!
Aug 2021 • Friends
We did an audio tour of the castle which was interesting followed by a trip to the Hermitage which was excellent!
The restrictions on numbers going across to the Hermitage made it very enjoyable as the Hermitage is tiny. It also enabled the boatman to come up with us and point out some things that we might have missed. The structure is amazing.

Stopped off waiting to check in to hotel

As castles go, it was OK. Nothing really apart from bare bones of a castle and rooms. It wasn't great for someone with limited mobility, and we felt it was lacking signs with information, and a clear route to go around to see everything.
