Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What a cool place to visit. We went here early one morning, so not many people. The highlight is going out on the sandbank. You can watch the kitesurfer, and generally enjoy the amazing views from this part of Perth.

Point Walter is a recreation area, to the south of the Swan River. It is popular for picnics and BBQs, and in days gone by it was popular for Sunday school picnics. Point Walter is almost midway between Perth and Fremantle. Point Walter's most notable feature is the sandbar, which extends one km, almost to the middle of the Swan River, at low tide.

Point Walter is a very large reserve park abutting the Swan River. There are large stretches of beaches along the river for water sports. We saw lots of kayakers and paddle boarders. Rentals were available. There are washrooms and change facilities but a lack of picnic tables. There is a restaurant but we did not try their food. This is a very popular spot and parking can be difficult. Arrive early to avoid a long walk. Overall a very good visit.

I went with my daughter and her friends to the Dinner at Dusk event in February. What a beautiful place to relax with family and friends. Plenty of families with picnic hampers and children enjoying themselves. The food trucks were plenty to choose from and we chose a Thai dinner. Cooked to order this meal was fantastic, sitting under the trees looking over the lakes and listening to the live music. What a brilliant time we had.

A lovely place for a walk by the river, also nice to bring your own picnic and find a shady spot. There is a nice cafe for drinks and snacks and also a restaurant. Plenty of parking spots during the week, weekends must be busy. View of the river and Mosman Park are pretty.

This place is a lovely spot for a picnic or to hang out outdoors. There is ample outdoor space to spend some time in the sunshine. It's also great for a run or a jog.

A lovely stretch of the Swan River where (depending on tide) you can walk out about half way on a sand bar.
A cafe, playground and parklands are also here.

Can you take a kayak? Is it a big walk from the car park?
Written 6 February 2016
Absolutely you can. There is a lower parking area for about 25-30 cars if I remember correctly, and you can always unload your kayak first, opposite the jetty area, and then go to park your car too.

Yes I am 99.9% sure that there are BBQ facilties at Point Walter. I think they are near the kiosk. There could be some also just up the hill from the jetty. Lovely grass area there too.
