We stopped by the red dunes on our way past during a day on motorbikes. They are quite impressive in terms of size and the colour in the late afternoon sun. There is a nice little cafe at the base of the dunes to get...More

I thought it was crowded, dirty and full of vendors pushing their services and products on you . The place they bring you to is not even very red . I have see more red sands than that elsewhere. Too touristy to my taste.

We rented bikes and rode up there for subset. Ended up meeting some English girls and taking them on the back of the bike up there. It was a beautiful drive up there and despite the terrible bikes we rented, I'd do it again. The...More

I never seen dunes like this in my life. It was something what we didn't expect. Local people just said, go through the small river, it starts under the bridge. And suddenly it was there. Red sand everywhere. Strange shadows (late afternoon) and thanks god,...More

Nice view and less touristic as the white dunes, although there are a lot of kids trying to sell a slide to get of the hills (which really does not work well). Trip to the red dunes is often combined with a trip to the...More

Crowded, yet beautiful. Lots of locals trying to sell experiences to the tourists. Definitely not as far from Mui Ne as I thought, 20 min drive in a scooter, thus not worth to pay a tour guide for the experience. Go during sunrise or sunset,...More

Definitely go there to watch the sunset, absolutely breath-taking as the sun turns red. Great for photos, but it was very crowded even though we went on a weekday and the climb up the peak to see the full view of the sunset can be...More

Hoards of (chinese) tourists posing and sliding down 10 meters on the sand"dunes". At least they had fun! We got to Mui Ne because of the promoted sandboarding, haha, this was absolutely not what we had been expecting. But in fact there are no real...More

Not as amazing as the white sand dunes, but amazing nonetheless. Wait until you are at the top to rent a carpet for 15,000 dong and slide down.

This place was sooooo crowded, we tried to wait for the crowds to leave but bus after bus full of people came and went. Might be a different story if you make the effort to get there early, the white sand dunes were slightly better...More

No you can easily do it on your own. Renting a motorbike or one of the jeep tours is probably a the best and most affordable way. I think our tour started at 4.30 or 5.00 am.

The dunes are not that close together but not a great distance either. I saw a lot of hotels along the way coming from Phan Theit to the red dunes.

Hi, I will be arriving at HCM Airport around 8am. Do u think I would be able to get 2 bus tix to go Mui Ne on that very same day? I don't wanna take the risk of booking the hotel there and not being able to make it by bus.

You should be able to. I took a bus from downtown. It cost 5 US and took about 5 hours. It was a two level interior recliner seating bus. Quite comfortable. I don't know if you can get a bus from the airport and may... More
