Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Afuri temple was huge and exciting, with a helpful digital visitors guide and little restaurants. Even the toilets were made of new, nicely kept up wood. In the back of the temple, built into a cave, there's a very mystic feeling hall that has a holy water fountain and a wooden sword carried up the mountain for pilgrimmages. On the left side you can see big barrels for sake or something and climb to the peak. It's very beautiful and new feeling, but its an old temple!

The shrine is really interesting with a long and fascinating history. There have been pilgrimages there for hundreds of years and it was especially popular in the Edo period. The main shrine torii is located at the top of a long stair climb but the view is absolutely worth it. Next to the omamori sales counter you enter an underground chamber with a natural spring and water spouting from a dragon’s mouth. This water is incredibly pure and crystal clear. Make sure you fill your bottle. The climb up the rest of the mountain is a bit arduous, but well worth the view.

I visited Oyama Afuri shrine and the shrine behind called Okusha - the top of Oyama mountain with friends. The rocky hiking is somewhat intermediate level - not for beginners. You must wear hiking (trekking) shoes. If you are collecting Goshuin Stamp, you can get 2 kind of stamps after you are done hiking to the top to see Okusha. The light up was very beautiful after sunset! Red leaves are amazing near Oyama cable station, Oyama temple (not Afuri shrine) - light up event ended on Nov 26th Sunday but it's a must see!
Don't forget to get natural spring water behind the shrine and feel the holiness inside. Bring empty bottle and bring back the delicious spring water back home!

Visited in April 2016 (it won't allow me to select a date farther back than June 2016) with a friend from California, we did not climb to the upper shrine but I will someday. Breathtaking view from upper slopes of Mt. Oyama, I took many beautiful pictures. The ride up on the inclined railway is fun, with lots of natural beauty to see. Highly recommend this site to anyone!

Visited in late afternoon of December, so it was not crowded. The way to the shrine was longer than I imagined - taking bus from Isehara train station, then about 20 minutes walking up the steps to cable car stop, few minutes on cable car and more steps - but the view was worth for.
I mistakenly decided to walk down to Oyama temple from the shrine, although not dressed properly for a hike. It was less than 30 minutes walk but the trail was rough an my knees sagged. But again, it was worth walking down as I witnessed a deer in the mountain.
It was a nice short trip from Tokyo where you could feel you came to a completely different place with both nature and history. I'd visit again, next time allowing me more time.

I really enjoyed myself here. Even if you take the cable car to the shrine, there is still a lot of walking, climbing and steps. Lots and lots of stairs. Very uneven and difficult to climb. No handrails, so take a walking stick. In spite of all of that I wouldn't have wanted to miss this. The whole area is so beautiful and peaceful. Allow yourself plenty of time for the climbing. If you have bad knees, take the tram both up and down.

Beautiful shrine with beautiful views that refresh your body and soul. The hidden passage leads to a dragon, a sacred rock and an even cooler respite from the heat. In addition, the staff were very helpful.

Beautiful shrine with fresh air and lovely views!
Be prepared for many stairs to get here even if you take the cable car or a serious hike and stairs if you choose that route instead.

This shrine has two precincts, one called Shimo-sha in the front part, and the other is Kami-sha on the deeper side.
I visited there on my trip. After a 10-minute walking through a shrine district called Koma-Sando, a station of the cable car appeared. Using it takes about 10 minutes to the precinct Shimo-sha, on the other hand, if you choose to go on foot it will take over 1-hour since the road is steep.
The precinct Shimo-sha has a shrine, a spring which you can draw water from, the water is said that has a miracle for long life, and Japanese style café with a great view.
From here to the precinct Kami-sha there are stairs with a sharp slant. I saw some people went upstairs, most of them looked at having enough equipment for climbing a mountain. Going to the precinct Shimo-sha only doesn't need equipment, easy to go for walking.

I visited this shrine, and also hiked to the summit. There is a nice range of shops around which have complementary water and tea. Nice weather will complement a trip here. A definite must if in Isehara. It's fairly busy on weekends where you will get most people visiting.
