About
Jigenj Temple was opened in the year of civilization 18 (1486). Most of them have been burned down in the Chichibu Great Fire in 1878, but a large number of majestic sculptures are given, and the rebuilt Kanondo has passed about 120 years. Although it is not so large, there are many highlights, such as stone-built warehouses and several Buddha statues, including historic buildings.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This tiny temple is just a short walk from the Seibu-Chichibu Station. It is number 13 of the 34 Buddhist temples which make up the Chichibu pilgrimage. We later learned that this temple is dedicated to diseases of the eye.
The grounds were empty when we visited save for one elderly lady who was sitting on a bench and greeted us kindly. She attempted to tell us something, but we didn’t understand except to understand that she was referring to the matsuri preparations, which we - of course - had come to see.
The main temple building has lovely and complex carvings around the entrance and on ceiling. A few other buildings were scattered in the temple grounds: an even smaller shrine, a kura housing an old mikoshi, a sutra storehouse and another building full of dry cleaning (of all things!). Around the corner on the street there was another very tiny shrine. There were interesting square decorated boxes - looking like small pillars, we do not know what these are but they were quite photogenic.
Around the side of the temple were two rabbits in a cage. There was a nursery school in an adjacent building and we could hear the children singing.

緑内障や白内障、視力の低下など「目」の悩みがある方は是非!全国から参拝に訪れているとか。メグスリノキの粉末が入った飴とお茶はお勧めです。
Those who suffer from "eyes" such as glaucoma, cataracts, deterioration of vision, etc., come on! They are visiting shrine visits from all over the country. Candy and tea containing 「Megusurinoki」 powder are recommended.
