We went to this gorge on our third day on our trip of the Gibb River Road. It is a long, and fairly difficult walk to the gorge ... took us a few hours to get there, and there is a water crossing (which you can swim or take small boat across) along the way.
The gorge is huge, and absolutely stunning. It is one of the bigger gorges on the gibb river road, has an amazing waterfall, and there is some beautiful wildlife to see.
If you like a challenge, climb to the top of the rocks above the waterfall for some stunning scenic photos.
Allow a couple of hours to spend swimming and relaxing, bring lots of water and some snacks as you will need it for the walk back.

Campsite is right on the gorge, so it was busy when we arrived for a visit and would probably be fairly well frequented most of the time. Pleasant enough but there are better gorges that you don't have to pay for!

We camped in the campground with our camping trailer and the sites were large, shaded and quite private. But the amenities were absolutely facility. This was a real shame because the gorge is beautiful and was the walk out to it (filled with wildflowers). And the billabong beside the campground is a wonderful place to cool down.

Fantastic gorge great hike to water fall hidden aboriginal art work. Showers / toilets really need upgrading. Stayed two nights. Ended up using own portaloo and portable shower. Expensive but second night cheaper.

Locate 7km on a maintained dirt road behind Mt Barnett roadhouse is the Manning gorge campground. Camping fees are available at the road house. $20 P/P for the first night which includes your access permit. Then $ 12.50 p/p. we originally booked one night but stayed several.You must remember this is a bush campground, but has well maintained shower with hot water & toilet block. Glen the caretaker could not be more helpful & friendly. The campground is located next to a beautiful river, we sat on the beach in our camp chairs with our feet in the water reading & taking in the beautiful views, taking the occasional dip.
The walk to the gorge starts with pulling yourself across the river in a small boat, can be a little boring & hard at times, especially towards the end.
Arriving at the end you are graced with a fantastic water fall & swimming area. Majestic.
The Barnett road house doubles as the local store, reasonably priced with hot meals available.

Beautiful gorge definitely worth the walk however the campground is hirendous. Dusty smoky campsites way to expensive for the site. Mt barnett ownrr was rude

We stopped here to camp for the night on our Road Trip from Darwin to Perth in September 2006. We were in a 4WD, and would recommend one to access the camping area behind the Mt. Barnett Roadhouse. However we did see a standard pickup pulling a big, one axle caravan - amazing.
The abolution block was clean and the sites well sized. It was towards the end of the season so it was not at all crowded, but I imagine far more folks would be there earlier in the year.
The camping area is suitable for tent camping, trailer camping or small Class C Caravans. It is right next to the water, which is class AA!
The water is cool and clean with a sandy 'beach' area. There is a rock in the middle you can wade to, or swim to. If you want to hike to the falls, you can wade through the water to the other size and then hike up to the falls, which is worth the walk I'm told. There is a styrofoam floating thing to put your shoes and gear in to make the crossing.We were tired and hot and so just hung out on the rock.
In the morning we were awakend at dawn by the haunting melody of the pied butcherbird. Incredible. Wish we had time for more there.

Yes a beach. In the middle of the Gibb River Road. A beautiful white beach, perfect for lazing in the shade with a coldy or having a refreshing dip. Safe for the kiddies too, not too deep with a little boat to take you to the other side of the river & a unique rock island in the middle. A ladder to get in this year as the bank has altered a bit.
This shady campground is huge & is located 7kms down the track behind the Mt Barnett Roadhouse, fees are payable at the roadhouse but a campground host is on-site to clean amenities & turn on & off the generator. Campfires are permitted but bring your own wood.
The generator which runs from 6ish in the morning until 8ish at night is used not only for power but to pump the water for toilets & showers. So, torches are necessary at night & advisable to shower prior to 8pm. 1 coin operated washing machine available.
Long walk to the falls with no shade so wear sturdy shoes & a hat & take plenty of drinking water.

Very dry season in the Kimberly’s. This gorge still had some water in it for swimming. The waterfall was a trickle. One of the better places for swimming this year along the Gibb River Road.
Nice rocks to lay out on after swimming.
The walk out is exposed. Follow the pink ribbons. Took us around an hour to get there but we walk pretty fast.
The walk starts from the camp site by pulling yourself across the water in a boat.
You have to pay for a pass at mt Barnet road house.

So this year’s wet was rather dry and as a result a lot of the gorges are only at a trickle already and their pools a little uhm fetid.
Not Manning gorge! Three light falls running .. perfect to swim under for a back massage. Pool clear and refreshing.
Also great thing is the high cliffs give good shade at least somewhere until well after noon... we stayed from 8 am til 1:30 and were able to swim and hang in shade.
Trail beautifully marked and takes you through sandstone flats, breezy plateaus and one steep up/down. Not too bad if you take it slow.
Keep your eye out for the unusual dolorite snakes (of the rock “dyke” variety not slithering ... I live with a geologist) and bring more water than you think you’ll need.
On the crossing .. you will likely end up soaked. So ziploc anything that can’t get wet. I had brought a light sarong that made a great damp cape to protect my shoulders on the hike as an aside. Different views on which side is most walkable but we got wet. Shout out on a random act of kindness .. one couple had brought a light air mattress to ferry their stuff across. They gave it to a young family for their crossing and let them keep it for the return. How lovely!!!!
Adjacent campground was great .. very quiet at the far end and good amenities. Manager gracious unlike that at the Mt Barnett Roadhouse.
