My husband is obsessed with Japanese culture and history. This was the perfect place for him to immerse himself in both. We both learned a great deal and had fun. The area where this is located is also very beautiful with tall mountains in the distance and the smell of spring in the air it was very nice!

Lots of tourists. Because it requires quite a walk from the station or if not renting a car or in a tour bus, spring or autumn should be the best time to visit the place. These are times when the temperatures are perfect for walking and the foliage a photo finish. On the way back to station, find time to... More

You can't get lost since there are signs that point you to the historical district. From station in about 10 min walk there. we visited Aoyagi manor, a very good preserved... More

Overall rating: 3.75 stars Aoyagi Samurai Manor contains a grab bag of diverse displays and buildings. The self-guided walking tour starts with the architecturally interesting main building and proceeds to a neat display of samurai weaponry and attire in the armory. Additional buildings (some of which were moved here from their original locations) contain scrolls, dolls, clothes, artwork, tools, and... More

There was an entry fee of 500yen. The grounds were quite big and divided into different houses. You get to touch and lift some of the swords and rifles used back in the days which made it more interactive and fun.
