The bridge marks the beginning or end of the Shimanami Kaido depending which direction you are coming or going to. The route is cycling friendly, so look out for the cycling path up the bridge and the scene along the way is breath taking.

We made a brief stop at the Rest Area before crossing the Bridge to go up Mt. Kiro for a full view, which was worth the time.

The Golden Gate Bridge has nothing on this glorious span. The views are fantastic, and the curved bike approach ramps on the way up and are a treat.

The fact that you can cycle across this fairly long bridge is an absolute treat! The view is spectacular and the bike lane is wide and smooth. I stopped often to take photos of the various islands in the Seto sea. However, it was a...More

We cycled over this bridge (twice!) on a return trip from Onomichi to Imabari. It is spectacular, so much so that I was actually pleased it was a misty day so I couldn't see too far as I cycled over it. It sounds strange but...More

A wonder of human effort to build but difficult to see much while driving across in car. Probably better view via a bus or by bike. Still, something to experience.

The drive is a NE direction from Imabari headed straight to Ominichi.. I suppose the sun would be on your right in the morning drive or left for the evening. So the answer is no, it would not setting behind Ominichi
