01 July, 2018. The Wife, Junior and I had planned a one-day trip to Okunoshima island, otherwise known as the `Rabbit Island'. The Rabbit Island hides some dark history: the poison gas factory which was hosted on the island. There are many ruins of the...More

We came to the island to visit the bunnies but since we had some time till next ferry, we decided to go to the museum. We expected nothing to be honest, but the visit was for sure worth it. The museum was only like two...More

This museum was interesting and there was an English pamphlet but I felt like a lot of the museum displays were only in Japanese. The museum is VERY small but worth it if you’re already on the island. I wouldn’t go out of my way...More

This museum tells the story of this island's sad history as a secret chemical weapons manufacturing and testing center during WWII. Unfortunately, much of the information is only in Japanese.

I was not aware of the goings on here during WW2, my sole purpose of my visit to Okunoshima was to see the rabbits but it's great to get the odd history lesson, the exhibits were original and even though there wasn't much English translation...More

Certainly worth the admission fee, which was 2 or 3 dollars. Make sure to read the pamphlet in English so you have a clue.

You can learn a little bit about the island's history as a sarin gas experimental site, and the 100 yen entry fee is reasonable, though don't feel that it's a must do. I would prioritise the rabbits and the remnants of the military base over...More

Having fed a few hundred rabbits with the food we brought over this was an interesting diversion. Yes the museum is small and only the main signs have English as well, but you also get a leaflet explaining some other exhibits. It is good to...More
