Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Be sure to go up the hills where the viewpoint is. We wasted few minutes to find the route, so it may be better to ask someone about it than getting lost. You can also go near it, if you go into the park. Nice place with calm quiet sea.

Must be the world's biggest sandcastle? Who'd have thought of creating a giant size coin in the sand of the beach to remind the local lord that taxes are not to be squandered. Don't think you'll find anything like it anywhere else.

The sand coin is kind of cool, and not something you are going to see anywhere else in Japan. I think that for this reason alone it deserves a positive review. Another reviewer said that there is not much tourist attraction type things in Kannonji, but there is a marvellous temple to go and check out! Also, Kannonji is a very typical city in Kagawa, and just going to a local restaurant, or shopping at the supermarket can give you a good chance to see how the locals live. Sometimes the best tourist experiences have nothing to do with touristy places at all.

Every year the coin is given a touch up where you can participate and help maintain this sand coin. The coin is located by the beach in Kotohiki Park. I suggest going and doing a full circle around it to truly appreciate its size. Please do not touch the coin. To see the view you will want to go up the stairs to the temple and steps away from the temple is the observatory. Yes if you don't want to make the walk you can drive to the observatory though there are less than 20 parking spots at the top. I suggest visiting both during the day and at night time. During the night hours the coin is illuminated by green lights that make it seems as though it is not sand at all. As a side note, depending on the time of year you go there will also be a mini zoo right outside the park/beach area.
Only down side you can find here are the bathrooms. If you don't like spiders I am sorry but all the bathrooms here will have plenty of spiders.

As a local, I have to admit a certain apathy for the Sand Coin, but for a casual tourist, you really should not miss it.
The Kaneitsuho itself is located below a promontory, so you must make the trek up to the observation deck if you want to actually experience the view; I would recommend driving up, but you can walk up the road or take some of the foot trails.
On a clear, bright day, there is a breathtaking view of the sea from the observation deck as well, and this is *the* spot for a great photo op.
Kanonji has precious little to recommend it as a tourist spot, so please, please enjoy this one major claim to fame!

This is a part of kotohiki park, and i definitely recommend the short hike to the top to see both the sand sculpture as well as the view of Kanonji from above. Like another reviewer mentioned, it's a little tricky to find the route at first. Once you're by the playground there is a pathway across the road that leads up to the two viewing areas. I think the more popular way is to drive to the top, though!
