Brick by brick
Sep 2019
It is probably the only brick museum in the world but it tells a fascinating story about the use of bricks around the world, both the fabrication of bricks and the monumental buildings in so many cities which are characterized by its use of bricks. I visited in an international group and suddenly we all had a story of a building we knew about which had deserved a place in this museum. Bricks are more interesting that you probably have realized.

Not crazy about bricks and world history you will soon be

I never thought much about bricks but now I do. This is a fabulous collection of bricks from around the world and so much to learn. Some of the bricks are from Ancient civilisations such as Egypt. You will find bricks from Scandinavia such as Sweden and Denmark. From many other European countries. The list is long. Some bricks from the Great Wall in China. The museum has a replica of Hoffmann kiln where you can see how bricks are made. Plenty of information in English with photos of old brick buildings from around the world. There is also an interesting section about the history of bricks in Japan. I never thought about world history seen from a brick’s point of view. Great lay out and we spend more than an hour at the museum
