Beautiful path leading to the shrine and a very kind priest
Oct 2019
The staircase to the temple looks beautiful when bathed in the sunlight, and the tree at the base is really humbling. The priest was very kind, also - he welcomed us into the shrine, told us about the history of the place, and let us inspect the beautifully sculpted gate in the inner rooms. I really enjoyed the place.

Kirishimamine Shrine
Jul 2019 • Family
Visited this shrine on our last day in Kobayashi. It was wet and muddy but there was a parking above, same level as the shrine itself so you didn’t have to go up the stairs. Also easy access for the elderly. On this day, a ceremony was taking place in which the priest, dressed in a white robe was blessing a truck and its owner and family. He came outside and did a ritual walking in and around the truck. Never seen anything like it before.
The shrine is one of the most simple ones I’ve seen and most friendly. The priest came out and showed us the inside of his temple, pointing out the designs around the alter. Situated in the middle of nature, it felt very spiritual and peaceful. Although I’m a Christian, it was a nice cultural experience.

Pretty torii gateway

The approach to the shrine is really pretty, and apparently amazing during cherry blossom and fall leaves seasons. In July there was a lantern festival.

Spiritual spot surrounded by nature
Apr 2019 • Solo
I came here by walking from Kannogo Onsen. When I arrived in front of the Torii, at the entrance, I heard the sound of a traditional Japanese flute, coming from Kirishimamine Shrine, and it was one of those moments I will never forget about my trip to Kobayashi. To find the shrine you need to make your way up the stairs, and the view from the bottom I's already stunning.

A really peaceful place within walking distance of the Kannogo Onsen

There was a very unique carving sculpture at this shrine. It was like a huge dragon and I really thought it was a special piece of artwork. We did not have enough time to really explore this place so I definitely want to stay longer next time. There were places you could walk around outside the shrine and the entrance was lovely too. It was walking distance from central Kobayashi so would be a good stop if you were taking long walks in the area.

Commune with Nature in this Power Spot!
Apr 2019 • Solo
Located a short stroll from Kannogo Onsen, this small but significant shrine features two unique statues at the bottom of the stairway to the sanctuary. Named “Ah” and “Un” for the first and last sounds of the Japanese alphabet, they fittingly symbolize the beginning and the end of life. Between the Torii gates, painted a typical vermillion, and these statues was a canopy of cherry trees. With few other visitors besides myself, I ventured up the stairs and after doing ritual purification and making an offering, paid ¥100 for a paper fortune. It’s rare to find multilingual fortunes in such an uncrowded place, making me feel as if I were meant to discover it. I highly recommend a visit for anyone looking for the elusive peace we seek.
