There are only two statues, and the venue is not that easy to reach. A small road leads you through nature, one needs a (rental) car or organised bus trip. The stone Buddhas are set in beautiful forest area. The walk up is not long, but the second part can be quite slippery, hang on to the hand rail.

After Maki Odo our tour went to Kumano Magaibutsu, five kilometers to the south. This bus tour allowed us to see the various sites on the Kunisaki Peninsula that we otherwise could not easily have visited on our own.
