Super nice for a day trip from Fukuoka. We took the "Yufuin no mori" train and enjoyed a lovely day out! Spent some time walking the streets, at the lake, Bussanji and a private Onsen.

Although super overpopulated with Korean women in Japanese kimono taking selfies at every turn, there's a reason for the popularity of the Yufuin area. It's so beautiful and picturesque and has great shops and restaurants. A lovely day trip from Beppu or Oita and has gorgeous hot springs spots and postcard locations.

Many of my friends, both Japanese and foreigners, recommended a visit to Yufuin so I went. The bottom line is that it is absolutely overrated and not worth wasting your time. Here are some examples as to why: - All the hot springs (onsen) that the area is so famous for are not within walking distance of the station. You... More

As you meander through the main street you begin to get a feel for this quaint, quintessentially Japanese town. Souvenir & food stops aplenty as my coach snakes its way thru.. Finally coming to a stop by the river at a public parking facility. Facing the waterway, turn left a pleasant 5 - 10-minute stroll takes you to a beautiful... More

It was a pleasant drive from Beppu through some winding B roads. Felt like Disneyland minus the rides. Pretty in the autumn Colours. Lots of street food and cake/dessert shops nestled amongst the usual souvenir shops. A little overrun by tourists (like myself!).

Yufuin is a nice place, not much things to shop around and not too much scenic spot to visit. A peaceful environment for you and your beloved one. one or two nights is enough to feel the place. When you visit the tourist website or travel guide, all of them will ask you to take a direct train from Hakata... More

Too touristy! But if you are in the area, it's still worth a stopover or a nights stay especially at Kamenou Besso. The whole town is lined with tourist souvenir shops selling ice cream and Swiss roll. If you are stopping by, you must make it a point to try the B-Speak Swiss roll. Be prepare to queue though.

Too commercialized with many big tour buses. We arrived in the afternoon and this was the time the buses rolled in. The lake was busy with them and so were the streets but they come for a quick visit and they go. When they have gone, the place was more peaceful. We came from kurowaka and the village environment there... More

Yufuin is a small town with one main shopping street and many onsens. We stayed at the Yufuin Hotel Shohokan which is an onsen ryokan within a few minutes walk from the main shopping street. It is good that they provide half-board like many hotels in the region do, because many of the shops and even restaurants close as early... More
