I intended to rent a bicycle from the train station to bike here but apparently there are only a few available and I came too late. There is a bus from the station that goes to the forest- the train station info center was able to give me the route and the place to get off (Seaside hotel). From there... More

We just drove through from Kishi Itoshima towards Karatsu, a nice drive but nothing really extraordinary as we didn't make any stop.

Staying in Fukuoka, we hired a car and took a day trip to Karatsu. There is a hilltop castle with some interesting exhibits and fabulous 360 degree views of the town, the sea, and amazing beach. Heading back in the direction of Fukuoka, we drove through this beautiful, atmospheric pine forest. It was very unusual with irregular twisted tree trunks.... More

We took the path from the Karatsu Seaside hotel through the forest. The trees are beautiful and unusual. Well worth a walk or bike ride. (Guests of the hotel can use the bikes for free. Just ask at the reception desk.)

Niji No Matsubara (“Rainbow Pine Grove” in Saga) – a grove about 3+ miles long with million+ black pine trees. We viewed this from atop Kagamiyama observation deck with a nice view of the Genkai-Nada seaside.
