This is one of the 3 white castles in Japan. It was beautiful in a sunny day. When we went there, there were not many tourists (compared with Himeji Castle) and we could enjoy a leisurely walk around the castle and the nearly Genkyu-En Garden....More

I have visited Osaka Castle, Kumamoto Castle and Nagoya Castle. By comparison, Hikone Castle is much smaller and lower. However, the other castles were badly damaged by wars and even burnt down to ground. They were all reconstructions. Hikone Castle is one of the oldest...More

A designated national treasure & one of key castles in Japan. It’s a well preserved wooden superstructure, but extremely steep to climb the stairs inside the main castle tower. It’s fairly well maintained, gorgeous & yet peaceful to walk around inside. It’s a good place...More

I enjoyed this small castle for it wasn't as crowded as the more famous castles. It met my expectations and I spent just enough time to see what I traveled there to witness.

It was great seeing the Hikone Castle and a bonus for this side trip was finding the Port of Humanity. The Castle was impressive as are all the historical monuments we saw in Japan.

城を回っている中で不覚にも携帯をなくしてしまいまたが、観覧時間終了後にもかかわらず探してくださり、無事手元に戻りました!本当にありがとうございました!とてもいい旅行になりました! When I visited Hikone shrine, I lost my cell phone. Site staff kindly search it even after the official hours, and gave it back to me! I really appreciate their great hospitality!!

Hikone castle is a quaint little thing up on a hill. The approach is very well-maintained and landscaped, and it doesn't feel as processed as some other castle walkways (no smooth cement walkways like at other places like Himeji or Osaka Castle). It's a bit...More
