A well preserved abbey that looks as though it could still be in full use. Lots of interesting buildings around it, also in full use. A nice place to spend a sunny afternoon.

We arrived at Maulbronn Abbey at 4:15, knowing that it closed at 4:30. We bought our tickets and asked the ticketseller if things were in English. She handed us a "map" which was in English, and we went inside the monastery. When we get in there, everything was in German, and the map she gave us just outlined the various... More

This is an amazing place to visit, especially from England where all our Cistercian monasteries lie in ruins. Although there is almost full access for disabled visitors, signage to the disabled entrance is non-existent. Once you find the door, you buzz through to the ticket desk and they should be able to open the door remotely. However this remote lock... More

I love monastic ruins and to find such rich heritage fully intact is a real treat. Up until I visited Maulbronn this past week, Kloster Eberbach was at the top of my list of favorites and I returned to it time and again. Now I can add lovely Maulbronn to my perennial haunts. It's cloister walk is light and airy--simply... More

We detoured to visit the Kloster on our travel to Heidelberg. It is worth the detour if you have any interest in history of such locations. The fee for visiting the ancient church is nominal and worth it...get the audio guide too. No fee toilets and a mobile market place also were available in the Kloster area. We enjoyed some... More

I visited Maulbronn Abbey during the off-season (a Tuesday in late March) so was lucky to have the place mostly to myself. While there are tours twice a day, English speakers may prefer to pay 2 Euro for the audio guide. The abbey is well worth 7 Euros and two hours. The part of the town that is enclosed by... More

We visited on a somewhat damp Saturday morning in January which turned out to be a fine time to do this. For a time we seemed to be the only people walking around and it gave us a chance to examine the architecture and feel the "weight of centuries" undisturbed. The whole site is quite impressive, from the centerpiece fountain,... More

Very interesting place to spend a day. Old abbey with historical movie sceneries and lovely area around. Dont miss locally brewed beer and world famous Maultaschen in the local restaurant or Biergarten in summer.
