We went early in the morning on a late September day during weekdays. There weren't too many tourists which is very nice. It was actually a medieval village in itself, with other old houses all kept intact. The well-preserved monastery was very quiet and had a lot to see. After walking through the inside, we were told to join the... More

Beautiful monastery that was built in the 12th century. The church is very basic at first look, but after you see the choir , the pulpit and the altar you understand the extensive work that was doe by the different craftsmen While walking in the kloster you can experience the light and shade reflected from the ornated windowes and the... A visit to the monastery is a great way to spend an afternoon. There is lots to see, both inside the building and outside of it. We visited at the weekend when we had the added bonus of a farmers market/craft fair. The monastery has a variety of architectural styles, including a fabulous fountain. Visitor facilities in the surrounding area... More

Maulbronn has a rather interesting history including frequent conflicts and some extensive damage. It contains a village within a village and the religious areas. Perhaps its most emblematic piece is the famous fountain (Brunnen), which is actually one of the newest features in the entire site. You should read up on the historic significance of the site as the written... More

The oldest Cistercian monastery north of the Alps is definitely worth a visit. Lots of beautiful old stone, probably best enjoyed with a guided tour or at least an audioguide.

This place had been long in my bucket list and I used to think that it was hard to get there without a car. However, due to the cultural train (Kulturbah) installed between Muehlecke and Moulbronn Stadt, it was an easy, one day trip from Stuttgart. The monastery and its surrounding area is really worth a visit. You could wander... More

Only a pity that parts of this highly interesting complex are not open to visit due to their use as a seminary. However much to see: the sober beautiful church, the austere cloister, the many eating, working and conventing rooms. It really gives you a fair view of how life could be in the medieval times in such a place,... More

This was the best of all worlds in tourist stops, in my history oriented mind. We went on a Tuesday mid day and it was not too crowded. Many spots we were basically by ourselves. It was very easy to get the pictures you wanted and enjoy the peace and history of the place. We paid the extra (I believe... More

We were really charmed by this well preserved monastery. It was definitely worth a visit! You can take a guided tour or just use an audio guide, which is available in several languages.

The Maulbronn Monastery is one of the most amazing sights I have visited in Germany and to do it justice I will quote from the brochure which so accurately describes the monastery. 'The former Cistercian Monastery, which is over 850 years old is acknowledged as the best preserved and thus most impressive extend medieval monastic complex North of the Alps.... More
