Grandiose Castle, gardens and estate...
Sep 2020
Fabulous place to visit once again, although the castle has not re-opened at present.
Plenty of parking, easy, safe check-in and very friendly staff/volunteers.
Beautiful gardens, neat hedging, topiary, and fantastic countryside views.
Facilities open, cafe etc.

Nice Day Out
Sep 2020
Lovely day around the gardens and parkland on a September day.
Plenty of parking with a member of staff stationed there for covid control advice.
Checked in through the one-way system.
Good one-way systems for the toilets and shop.
Very nice gardens with several different areas and viewpoints. Took a 3-mile hike around the castle following the blue route markers.
It's a bit confusing in one area. We went wrong and saw many others doing the same.
Beware that the route takes you through a cattle field! we had to climb over the fence (and back again) to avoid the animals.
Great day out though - recommended.
Offa's Dyke is a bit dissappointing.

Magnificent castle and gardens
Sep 2020 • Family
Beautiful historic castle set in magnificent grounds. Well done NT staff for being so organised, friendly and sensible in ensuring a safe environment for everyone during these worrying Covide times. A few more outside times are needed and maybe a gentle reminder to free up tables for others when groups have finished their refreshments. We loved the gardens and woodland. Dog friendly too. Lovely afternoon celebrating my son's birthday.

Large castle
Sep 2020 • Couples
We enjoyed our walk round of Chirk Castle grounds. The actual castle was restricted in terms of access due to only recently having reopened following closing for covid-19. For this reason it was only a 4* visit today but I hope to be back when it fully reopens and for that to be a 5* visit. The cafe was good as always and good value.

This place is huge!
Sep 2020 • Couples
Went only a month after re-opening following lockdown and knew only gardens/grounds open and not castle so only thought we’d be there an hour or so but ended up staying for 4 hours. It was a lovely sunny day which helped. Lots to see and good walks around the grounds.

Truly amazing
Sep 2020
The castle is huge with a wide lawn/garden. We were lucky as there were not many people when we visited yesterday. Parking is available which is convenient. Staff were all friendly.

Good walks
Sep 2020 • Couples
Great walks. The gardens are good with views. There is plenty of parking available. The castle wasn't open, but it is worth a visit when things get back to normal.

A long overdue return visit
Sep 2020 • Couples
Only the gardens and estate walks are open due to Covid but well worth a visit as the views are lovely from the castle which is on a hill. It’s about a 10 minute walk uphill from the carpark to the gardens and it’s quite steep if you are unfit but at least you know it’s downhill going back. They currently have a one way route round the main garden in keeping with other National Trust gardens.

Great walking day out
Aug 2020
Drove here for an hour and a half, found it very good. The cafe was nice, prices the same as everywhere else. I would especially recommend getting your walking boots on, as this place is huge. We spent 3 hours here and only covered 50% of what there was to see. Gardens are beautiful.

Lovely Place
Aug 2020
Lovely building. Very helpful staff. Well maintained gardens. Lovely views over the countryside and beyond - the Peak District can be seen on a clear day like the one we had. Plenty of space to wander in. Safe for distancing.

What are the latest prices to visit for the day?
The website lists Peak & Off Peak prices but has no explanation of when “Off Peak” is.
nationaltrustDOTorgDOTuk/chirk-castle#Prices
The off peak prices are half the standard price but on Thursday last week (not a school holiday week) we had to pay full price - the signage at the ticket office does not list the off peak prices so was confused and didn’t like to ask about the off peak option. But not we’re they offered to us as an option when I asked how much it is on entering.
Please can you clarify this?

The current price for an adult is £14 (gift aid) or £12.60 (standard) to visit the whole property. Off-peak prices only applied between 3.2.18 - 9.3.18 and 10.11.18 - 25.11.18 (weekends only) when the state rooms are not fully open.

How much is it to just go round the gardens

Check out the National Trust website for Chirk Castle. The cost is for the whole experience, castle and garden. As one visitor told me you can get a family ticket for a year for the price of a macdonalds once a month. An annual membership allows you as many visits as you want and to every National Trust property or grounds as well as free parking. Well worth joining as there are over 500 places to visit in England, Wales and Ireland. So have fun

Yes if you are a member you don't pay at all, membership is worth every penny.

How steep is the walk from the car park
barbarabutler2015

It's quite steep with a hairpin bend. Some of our group took the NT minibus up to the castle and back again. If you have difficulty walking up slopes, I suggest you take the minibus to visit the castle. The setting and the grounds are stunning.

how easy is it for a teenager in a power assisted wheelchair?
annrP122AS
Staffordshire, UK41 contributions
It is very steep. With a power assisted wheelchair you should have no problems as long as you have a full battery charge. Need to be careful on the downward journey but would be "do able". Enjoy
