About
Brigitte and Philippe Subra came from France in 1998 to live in Mendoza. Philippe managed a company in the electric business of Mendoza for more than 4 years. They created CarinaE Viñedos y Bodega (CarinaE SA) in January of 2003. The company dedicates itself to produce high quality wines, with grapes that are produced in its own vineyards of low yields located in the traditional first zone of Mendoza. The wines are made in the winery they rebuilt at their property in Cruz de Piedra, Maipú.CarinaE has near 20ha of productive vineyards that are spread around its property at Tres Esquinas, Cruz de Piedra, Maipú (8 ha of 85 years vineyard of Malbec, 0,5 ha of Syrah, and 2 ha of Sabernet-Sauvignon), and on the famous Calle Cobos in Perdriel, Luján de Cuyo (3ha and 4,5ha of 90 years old vineyards of Malbec). Near the Cruz de Piedra property, a little vineyard of 2ha was newly planted with syrah and malbec, and begun to produce syrah in 2011.This “Boutique” winery has a vat capacity of 260,000 liters. It has renewed concrete vats coated with epoxy paint and a cellar with 200 French barrels. CarinaE has the necessary technology to produce high-quality wines.

This is a small boutique winery. It had been recommended to me so we made a reservation. We had a small tour of the vineyard and the facility and then a tasting.
The wines were ok. One was pretty oxidized. The one we liked the best was $44 Pesos ( about $44 US) and we didn’t think it was worth that price so we didn’t buy any. Our guide was fine. Out of the 5 places we tasted on this trip, this was our least favorite

CarinaE is a small winery, producing 300,000 liters of wine per year (as a comparison, Salentein, which is not the largest, produces 12,000,000 liters per year). Therefore, everything about the visit is much closer and more personal than when visiting larger wineries. Furthermore, Mai is an exceptional guide and the wines are of extremely high quality!

A cellar with more artisanal production, much smaller than the others we visited, but a grateful surprise, we too like the visit and tasting.
The very friendly guide told the whole story of the place, also took us to walk along the vineyards and olive trees explaining the whole process very well. A very nice visit to make, good wines at the tasting, we brought some.

At first, the lack of beauty of the place draws attention, something rare in Mendoza. We visited many small, charming wineries, but Carinae looks like a stable and the vineyard area smelled like dog poop. The wines were also disappointing. I had read great reviews, but I didn't find any wine that surprised me. Perhaps there was a drop in quality after the previous owners sold the bodega. I was also bothered by the fact that we had to reuse the same glass, as this spoiled the tasting and made it difficult to compare the wines. Of all the wines served, I only really liked the top of the line, which was a great, full-bodied Malbec. Of all the wineries we visited, this was the weakest.

Really lovely vineyard. We came here on a self-guided Maipu bike tour (with Mr Hugo’s). It’s quite a long way to cycle but we made it our first stop and it was completely worth it. Has some of the nicer wines that we tasted in Maipu and the tour (in English, available in other languages too) was really informative.

An interesting independent wine producer. The lady leading the tour was very nice and explained everything quite clearly. This was the third bodega we visited. Perhaps we were expecting a little bit more of it based on the great ratings we saw before going to CarinaE. It is not disappointing but it is not to die for either :)

The winery is a small, family owned business which definitely made the experience more charming. We went late in the day and so it was only us and one other group so our experience might be slightly different, but, we were so well looked after and treated like family! The wine was delicious and there was a large selection to choose from. A truly great experience!

We visited this winery on our second day in Mendoza. We were greeted by a friendly dog right away, which is always a good sign. We purchased a cheese plate and it was delicious (so fresh!), and we enjoyed a private tasting. This is a small vineyard, the smallest we visited while in Mendoza, but the personal one-on-one interaction and camaraderie stood out as well. This was a lovely experience.

We visited multiple wineries during our stay in Mendoza, all very different, and we agreed this one was our favourite. Firstly, we were able to visit on Sunday - it’s one of the only wineries open then. Philippe, the owner, was lovely and friendly. Gave us an informative tour in English and then a guided tasting of 5 delicious wines. They also prepared some food for us! They even called us a taxi so we could go to the other winery we’d planned to go to that day.
This is a small winery and certainly not as fancy and some others but well, well worth a visit.

Very charming winery with interesting history. Visit was quick, and that was good as we can’t have long visits in all of Mendoza’s wineries. Vitoria was great in recognizing the different type of visitors and going straight forward with us. But she was patient with another group giving them a good experience with the basics of wine making. Tasting was also very interesting and we boight some of their bottles. As it was quick (about 30 minutes), our 4 year old daughter was enough entertained with the yard, the dogs, and with crayons Vitoria smartly offered her.
