This review relates to the swimming area at the dam on Perucac lake. There is a large floating pontoon from which you can swim in the deep waters. There are small areas built into the pontoon with shallower water for smaller children. The water is generally clean, although there is some natural debris floating on the water and the odd piece of garbage. It gets extremely crowded on hot days, to the extent you will struggle to find a space to walk through let alone lay down a towel! Good for a quick cool down but swimming at the lake in Tara park is a much nicer experience. Although our kids preferred it here as they liked jumping off the platforms.

We stayed in a charming, cozy lake house (Omorika & Gepetto) surrounded by breathtaking nature. However, please be aware that the sewage treatment is dangerous! The shower and the sink take in the water next to the toilet outlet. A risk of infection! It can be hazardous to take a shower immediately after using the toilet!!!

Perucac lake is an artificial lake made for hydroelectric dam nearby. However the scenery there is amazing. If you are able to get to one of the floating houses on the lake I highly recommend that. Extremely soothing to sit on the patio of one of these houses and just let the mind drift with perfect view in front of you, consisting of the lake and mountain hills all around you.
It is only a short drive from the town of Bajina Basta.

Stunning view on the Perucac lake and massive concrete water gate. You can swim on the lake, there is caffee as well, but you can search around and find few interesting viewpoints. Restourant Vrelo is also nearby. Banjska stena viewpoint is around 20km away...

We have been several days around Lake Perucac. Two times to swim but more to wander around in the Nature Park and to enjoy the views of the Lake. Especially Banjska Stena gives an amazing view. The boat trip on the lake and the River Drina to the other side (Bosnia) and far more to Visegrad is interesting and very beautiful.
Nearby to the lake (less then two km) is the beautiful restaurant of Vrelo where we have had an excellent dinner two times.

We began our ascent to Lake Zaovine from the dam of Lake Perucac and there great views to be had back to the lake and the Drina valley downstream. The river is very picturesque and enhanced by the lake, so long as you can blot out the dam itself. We never made it to the Banjska Stena viewpoint (it's an hour and a half walk from Mitrovac so you probably need a minimum three and a half hours to complete the hike - we didn't have time) but I understand you get to see upstream from the lake which I would imagine is a great view.

The lake was created on the Drina River by the construction of a dam for the Perucac hydroelectric power plant. It goes from Visegrad to Perucac which is more than 50 kilometers. The largest part is in the canyon which is in some places deeper than 1,000 meters and is one of the deepest in the world.

Most people only know the start and end part of the lake. Those who were on a cruise ship (cost about 20 euros per person) also saw the middle section, but only from the surface of the lake. Unfortunately, the viewpoints from which you can see the canyon from above are very difficult to access and not easy to find, but they are worth the effort because there give you breathtaking views. After all, look at the photos and judge for yourself.

I hope these comment will help you. If you need any help regarding this or any other attractions in Serbia (location information, transportation, guidance, organizing private tours, etc.) feel free to contact me because I do tours all over Serbia.

Enjoy Serbia!

The water was wonderfully warm, but full of garbage. The house boats are fun to see. The dock area needs serious repairs, scary to walk on it. There is no beach. It is worth the extra drive to get to Zaovina lake instead.
