About
Blue Whale Boat Operators are island-based boat owners & crews. Proceeds highly benefit the local community instead of being channeled to foreign bank accounts (sustainable tourism). All boats are fully licensed and crews are well trained in safety at sea, rescue swimming, and guiding snorkelers. Weak swimmers or non-swimmers are accompanied and safely introduced to the amazing underwater world. A variety of tours in traditional dhows or fiberglass motor boats are offered. You can join one of our daily tours to Kisite Mpunguti Marine National Park or book individual cruises to various destinations and including a variety of activities (sailing, snorkeling, diving, fishing, transfers to Funzi-Tanga-Pemba-Zanzibar etc).

Had a great day! Communications up till the trip were excellent and the crew on time. We had hired the boat to our selves for the day, it was wonderful ! The crew was very attentive to our needs and made great suggestions to maximize our trip according to our wishes.
The boat is a smallish dhow, charming and rustic but with good lifewests for both young and adults.
Our guide was knowledgeable and took great care of our youngest daughter, guiding her over the Reef and letting her rest and be dragged across the corals on the lifering that he toward at all times.
We were just going to snorkel the Reef but the crew spotted a school of dolphins and convinced us to to go swim with them. This became a magical experience! They had just caught som large fish and approached us with their mouths full of silver fish and ready to check us out.
They swam around us and two of them decided to have fun with our biggest daughter. They came up behind her and swam almost between her legs eliciting a very surprised small scream. They then turned right in front of her and swam back and cirkeled her. She started doing saltoes in the water to their obvious amusement.
All in all it was an amazing snorkling experience. We swam, are our own food, as we didnt want to return for lunch, had a nap and then swam with the dolphins befor returning exhausted and exhilirated to the dock.
Be advised that there is no toilet in the boat, if you do a whole day trip like us and that swimming a whole Day makes you really tired so if you need extra snacks or coffee to bring that and an extra towel to cover up for a nap.
The crew is lokal and knows all the best places and secret coves in all the small islands so take their advice on where to go at what tide and have an amazing day!

My wife and I booked a private tour just the two of us and it was excellent. We were shown the map of the area at first to give us an idea of the day and then set off. Immediately the crew, Saeed(captain) and Amil(deck hand), spotted that Whales were in the distance and we set off towards them. They kept a very respectful distance so as not to scare or disturb them whilst giving us the best opportunity to view them and their behaviour.
Once we were satisfied we then headed towards the reef. My wife is not a strong swimmer and quite terrified of getting into open waters. Amil was great and helped make sure she understood how safe she would be, using a life ring in the water and once she was in he never left her side. We saw many amazing sights in the water with the best being a sea turtles which we could follow at one point directly above them. Following this we headed towards a beach that appears at low tide with beautiful sand and clear water.
Lunch consisted of heading to a restaurant on Wasini Island, beautifully placed where we ate fresh Lobster, Crab, Snapper and a really tasty seaweed starter.
The day ended with a tour around the town handing out sweets, pencils and books to the local kids.
Could not ask for more from a marine tour, highly recommend these guys.

We were on a private boat, all for us, we spotted ehales and dolphins and later had a super nice snorkeling experience. We took a private day hire to Wasini for my daughter's birthday last week. We had the best day! We were brilliantly looked after by Said and Amin. They made every effort to make sure the day was really special. Whilst they couldn't guarantee the dolphins we did find some and got to swim with them - could reach out and touch them they were so close!
The day was made even more special with the balloons, locally picked flowers and traditional birthday pudding which they surprised us with for my daughters birthday.
The perfect day - really well organised and looked after. Thank you!

We had a memorable day together with our Blue Whale Captain and his very nice helper. The latter explained us a lot about what we were seeing. Even though it wasn't a sunny day, we did a great snorkeling with great variety of fish, colors and corals.
The snorkeling equipment was excellent. The most exciting moment was when a pod of dolphins came to swim with us, spinning, whistling and playing next to us. One of the most exciting experiences in life, a surprise not always foreseen in the program!

We went on a private full day trip to Wasini Island and snorkelling at the national park led by guides Amin and Said who were great. Amin is very professional and guided us around the coral reef for as long as we wanted and we saw lots of fish, octopus and a sea turtle. We also saw lots of dolphins very close from the boat. Lunch was delicious and included fresh fish and crab with lots of other local delicacies in a really beautiful seaside setting on the island. Feisal, who organised the trip and communicated very well with us beforehand, then led us on an informative and interesting tour of Wasini island.
We would really recommend this company especially for the price and were very happy with the service, wil be recommending to friends and family when they visit Diani.

Nothing as good as having someone who has grown up in the island be your guide in the sea. Feisal, Amin and saidi were the best guides anyone can ask for on land and in the sea.
We had a very nice driver to and from our hotel Mr Chai... His driving inducts you to the slow and steady relaxed mood of diani. Truely forces your body to disconnect from the hustle that your body is used to in Nairobi. We get to the KWS marine park point and Feisal is there to welcome us with a big smile. He guides us to the blue boat yes ...what you see on the photos is what you get ... Well maintained, clean with an epic captain seat. My biggest worry was my friend and I were non swimmers and all Amin told us was don't worry all you need to do is trust me and trust yourself..... The rest was awesomeness. The story of the mangrove gardens and the project by the women on wasini island oooh noble cause.. It is was just nice being on an island with only 3000 inhabitants... Literally everyone knows everyone. And the food ooooohhh the restaurant owner (I forget his name) such a charismatic soul .. he will feed you and bless you with a big heart and smile ...
Definitely a come back soon ... Thank you team blue whale ... You are exceptional at what you do.

The boat (dhow) was rickety so in the beginning I was skeptical of the experience. But it was an amazing day cruise.
- We saw dolphins up and close.
- We snorkeled and saw tons of fishes.
- The mangrove trees on the island are worth a visit (you won't lose a lot by skipping though).
- They served great food for lunch. As a vegetarian, I usually go in with low expectations but was surprised to see how delicious the food (coconut rice, beans, fruits) was.
- The crew sang songs in multiple languages afterwards. They were enthusiastic about the entertainment.

Thank you for your positive review Ashish but we don't want to accept praise meant for others. Since April 2020, we have been only carrying out exclusive private tours. As you were alone, you asked us to support you in finding an operator who offers joining group tours, and so we referred you to KAUTHAR BOAT TOURS. We are happy to learn that you enjoyed your tour with them. Wasini's Blue Whale Boat Operators have a fleet of well-maintained traditional Arab dhows (none of them rickety), and we are a bit less keen on entertainment but put more emphasis on wildlife experience. We are glad to hear you keep good memories of Kenya's most beautiful Marine National Park and your Wasini Island visit.

Jambo - we will be in Bamburi for two weeks from 4th September - what are the chances of seeing/ swimming with Humpback whales during this period ?
WasiniGuide
Wasini, Coast, Kenya35 contributions
Hello, and thank you for getting in touch with us. Kisite Mpunguti Marine National Park is most famous for its resident bottlenose dolphins. Although humpback whales pass along our coast during their annual migration, it is impossible to predict whether we can spot them beginning September; some years we see them almost daily for a period of several weeks, in other years they are spotted more infrequently. Swimming with whales is definitely a no! Humpback whales are not comparable with the slow whale shark, and even boats have to stay well clear of them!
Please feel free to contact us closer to date...
