    What a find!
A beautiful find! Tucked away in the Devon countryside, we had a wonderful day, getting up close to some truly wonderful birds. And all being taught by a young lady, who had birds there older than her!!!! Amazing knowledge, amazing confidence and an amazing future ahead of her. Thank you for a wonderful day.
Thank you so much for your lovely comments! Really pleased that you enjoyed being with Meg and our birds and that your day was enjoyable.

Great day out for all ages.
We did the whole day experience as a group of 8 ( 2 families). It was an amazing day and we all really enjoyed it. The birds were beautiful and Meg was very knowledgeable and calm, patiently aswering all our questions . Small caffe shop on site offering home cooked food, which everyone enjoyed. Highly recomended experience.
Hi Blanka, thank you for your lovely comments and really pleased you all enjoyed the day and it was a pleasure to meet you all.

    Brilliant experience day.
We booked a day experience, and it was wonderful from start to finish and was worth every penny. We held all sorts of birds from a very, very cute Indian Scops Owl (Dottie) to an absolutely beautiful Chilean Blue Eagle (Mia) We had several Owls and a Harris Hawk fly onto our Gloves for food and were given all the time we needed for photos and to have a long look at the birds. They were awe inspiring. Due to Avian Flu we were restricted to inside flying, but that just meant we were more up close and personal with the birds. Staff were all courteous, lunch was great. Megan was very informative and answered all the questions fired at her. It is so good to know these birds are treated so well and that their well-being is top priority. We will definitely be returning for another experience day, and would recommend Yarak as an experience to anyone.
Hi, thank you so much for your lovely comments, and we are very happy that you enjoyed our birds and that you see how much our birds mean to us and that their welfare is our top priority. Thank you.

    Unforgettable experience .
Well . After several delays ( delays our end not Yarak ) stretching back to April ( my Birthday ) My wife and I finally got to yarak Birds of Prey . I can honestly say it was worth the wait .- The experience was fantastic . The staff were very knowledgeable , professional and friendly . Megan was in charge of us for our all day experience . She knew the answers to any questions . She also added a couple of interesting / amusing anecdotes . What we particularly liked and totally agreed with , is the fact that the welfare of the birds is the NUMBER ONE PRIORITY . This is made perfectly clear as soon as you get to the reception . The cafe is very nice , with really nice food and drinks and is excellent value . We adopted an Owl called smudge . We would just like to take this opportunity to thank John and his Team ( and the Birds 🦅 of course ) For providing us with an unforgettable day . We will definitely be back .
Hi Girvan, thank you for your lovely comments. We are really pleased to read that you enjoyed your time at Yarak with our birds.

Amazing day out interacting with the most beautiful birds of prey!
My partner and I have spent the day at Yarak! It is our third visit and we were not disappointed! After purchasing a gift voucher as a Christmas present for my partner it has become one of our favourite places to visit for a day out. It is a pretty site in the countryside, we’re you are made to feel very welcome from the moment you arrive. Meg was there to meet us today, she made us hot drinks and we chose our lunch from the menu, which was delicious, and reasonably priced! There was a group of ten of us and Meg took us to the large barn indoor area, due to the bird flu, the birds are unable to fly outside in the staffs great efforts to protect them and keep them safe. We spent the morning with the owls, Dotty, Barley, Gimley and Tig, holding the birds and flying them. Meg was so knowledgeable, I honestly don’t know how she remembers all the facts, there was not a question she could not answer, and she made the interaction interesting and fun, filling in all the facts with little stories that revealed each birds personality and made it real and personal! After lunch, which was delicious and gave the group chance to have a chat and get to know each other a little we spent the afternoon with Meg and some more characters! There was Rufus, Freddie ,the barn owl, Mia, the eagle, Millie the Kestrel, Bruno the Harrier Hawk-and Smudge! Meg told us their stories and gave everyone the opportunity to get close to the birds. John, the owner treats the birds like family members, some have been hand reared and it is obvious how much John and the staff care about each one. We had the best day ever, I can’t recommend this beautiful gem in the country side enough, you will not regret spending a day here, you will learn so much about these beautiful creatures, and a special shout out to Meg who looked after us all so well! We will be back!

    Wow! What a wonderful experience
I was given a voucher for the full day experience for my birthday. What a treat it was, I had an amazing day. Meg was brilliant, she was happy to answer all our questions & her passion for the birds & her job was obvious to see. My daughter accompanied me to take some photo's & she ended up enjoying it as much as me. Truly an unforgettable day, thank you to all at Yarak.

    Amazing day
A gift from my daughter for me and my partner. I have always had a love for birds of prey. So this was perfect. What an experience we had. From a proper friendly welcome which remained all through the day. Great lunch and well organised. The love and care shown to all the birds was second to none. Our day experience was amazing, the interaction with so many of the birds was so magical from feeding, flying, and learning about their now home life to their natural habitats. A big thank you to Meg, so much information and again so friendly and helpful throughout the day with us. Answered all the questions thrown at her from the lovely group we were with. Well done to John and the team at Yarak… thank you from Dave and Lorraine … ( Sat 30th )

    A very wholesome experience
My partner and I visited today for a full birds of experience day, we are currently on holiday and the only day we were able to attend was the Wednesday which they were fully booked. John called me back and stated he had moved things around so we were able to attend. We saw many birds, some of the averies were closed off to protect the birds from bird flu which we completely understood. Meg who was assisting us for the day was happy to answer any questions and was very kind, friendly and helpful. It was amazing how much knowledge she had. John was absolutely lovely, he sat with my partner and I and made us feel very comfortable. I would definitely recommend and we will be visiting again

    Amazing
Bought this for a present for my dad and brother and they absolutely loved it! Meg was absolutely fantastic with incredible knowledge of all the birds she was handling and you could tell what passion she had in her job. Such an amazing experience that I can’t even describe it.

Poor customer service -we travelled to the Yarak area the night before to be in closer proximity than trying to travel the distance on the day for a 1000 start however we get a tel call as we were leaving from John the business owner to say he’s cancelling our day as a member of staff tested positive and he needed the day to go and get tested. I explained we had paid to stay near by in readiness for the Yarak experience and straight away he offered to pay and was very apologetic.

Since then I’ve sent him the invoice and chased him on multiple occasions and one of the responses is we need the money for the birds not your hotel then another later offering half the money and now in February and still nothing has come through and no longer getting any replies.

I am sorry but we are NOT responsible for you booking accommodation which is nothing to do with Yarak or your experience day. Your accommodation was booked soley by yourselves because as you mention here you didn't want to travel on the day, we knew nothing about it until I had to ring you and cancel as I did to 8 other couples because of staff testing positive for covid. Everyone we had to unfortunately cancel were very understanding of our situation. We did NOT offer to pay for your all of your accommodation, I offered to help towards it as a gesture of goodwill. We offered you 50% of your invoice and you refused it. We didn't have to offer you anything as you booked accommodation for yourselves which is nothing to do with Yarak. The reason we haven't replied since is that your response to our offer was very rude as had been your previous email. During the last 2 years of Covid we were closed for 16 months with no income and first and foremost in our minds is always our birds, so yes any money we have is needed for the birds as you were told. But we did offer a 50% payment to you which you turned your nose up at. Also you have had a full refund for your voucher from Groupon. Please don't try to rubbish a business that tried to help you but unfortunately couldn't as your rudeness and greed got in the way.

Spent my Sunday morning being memorised by these characterful birds and I cannot recommend a visit for adults and children alike.
John is incredibly passionate about the work he and the team does at Yarak and his care and (more importantly) respect for all the birds is tangible. It was fascinating to learn so much about these elusive birds of prey, John's knowledge is next to none and he was ready to answer any questions we had. We were shown and had the opportunity to 'fly' multiple owls, including feeding them and even having one fly over our bodies as we lay on the floor!
If you are at all interested in Owls (or other brides of prey), definitely get yourself booked onto a session and Yarak and (if you're anything like me) be prepared to come away feeling like you want to work there.

A wonderful experience. I took part in the half-day experience this afternoon and my partner joined as a spectator. We travelled up from Cornwall, there are other birds of prey centres closer to home but the Yarak centre is well worth the journey.
Our visit was arranged less than 24 hours in advance. We were fortunate that there were spaces available and John answered all queries, communicating swiftly so that we were able to make the booking. The traffic was heavy (we travelled on a Friday which also happened to be half-term week) and we were concerned about arriving late but a quick telephone call to John put us at ease. When we got to the centre, slightly flustered and 5 minutes behind schedule, the staff were friendly and reassuring.
The afternoon session was excellent. We joined a group who were doing a full day experience. Megan was leading the session in the indoor flight barn, assisted by Kerry. They both looked after us and brought us up to speed. We met Rufus, a Red Tailed Hawk, Millie, a Kestrel, Freddy, a Barn Owl , Bruno, a Harris Hawk and Maya ,a Chilean Blue Eagle. All these beautiful birds were in great condition, clearly trusted Megan and were happy to be among the visitors. It was lovely to see how each bird had a different personality. We had a generous amount of time handling and flying the birds. Megan gave us lots of information about each bird and was happy to answer any additional questions. The birds, although trained , are still very much sovereign beings, they choose when they want to fly and to whom they fly and perch. They are never forced to fly , nor are they starved to make them fly for morsels which is sadly the case at some other establishments.
It was refreshing to visit somewhere that treats the birds with their due respect and doesn't treat them as money-making machines.
The centre was clean and tidy when we visited. We didn't look around the aviaries as obviously avian flu is still very much a concern and bio security measures were in place. The aviaries which we saw from a distance looked to be good sized and the birds seemed content. All visitors walked through disinfectant before entering and upon leaving the premises. John is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about these birds and has built the centre with their needs foremost in mind. His team are dedicated and happy to share their wisdom and experience. I highly recommend Yarak Birds of Prey and I think I will return, either with my partner ,family, colleagues or friends. I am
tempted to take part in a full day experience and look forward to a time when outdoor flight is possible once more, Maya at full stretch must be an impressive sight to behold!

This was a surprise birthday experience gift from my husband and the guys at Yarak were very accommodating as we had to change our initial visit date due to personal reasons. We were also travelling in our small motorhome and they were fine for us to stay overnight in their car park which was really helpful (I am not saying everyone could do that but we checked with them first and we are respectful of all spaces we stay in). We went yesterday (July 13th) and joined a friendly group of about 12 others (not all taking part). Rightly so, there are the precautionary measures with footwear on entering the building so don't wear your best shoes then complain!
There is a little cafe that you can grab a hot drink and snack if you want, then a large room with table and chairs with a video showing clips of some of the wonderful birds flying.
Rightly so, you cannot just walk around gawping at every bird in each enclosure and having read one of the reviews on here, I would say please don't come to one of these sanctuaries unless you are willing to put 'animals' first and respect them. Even one of the enclosures that we could walk up to showed a large owl with its back turned to us as it clearly wanted to be left alone and we walked away. Respect always!!
Yesterday's weather was a mixture of sunshine but mainly high wind and heavy rain. Our experience was indoors in a large, long barn and yes, it would have been nice to see some of the birds flying outside but to be honest, being around the birds in this indoor space felt incredibly intimate and quite emotional.
I am so sorry I didn't make note of the names of the two lovely people that were showing us the birds, but they were very knowledgable and friendly, inviting us to ask questions as we went along. It was quite exciting each time they left the barn to collect one of the birds as apart from them saying 'shall we get Freddie or Dotty' we never knew which bird was coming and what size!! We were able to hold each one no matter what type and we were given clear advice on how to hold them/what to do when they fly towards you etc.
Our day was between 10-4 and our experience included lunch (cooked meal and one drink) We had the vegetarian lasagne and it was really nice, well cooked, filling and tasty (and we are fussy vegetarians!).
We have never done anything like this before and we do not confess to being extremely knowledgable about birds of prey, we just know we love and respect them.

We joined Yarak today and we had a fantastic day. The respect and attention the birds receive is first class.

We met 6 birds, handling and observing natural characteristics. The birds were able fly and the handler was knowledgeable and engaging.

It was important to me that the birds we shared time with were in the main rescue birds who now have a more comfortable life, after previous homes had not been able to look after them safely.

We had a great lunch from the team and felt very much at home during our day.

Thankyou John and Team.

I would highly recommend the centre for all bird fans.

If you are looking for a birds of prey experience look no further! I cannot recommend Yarak Birds of Prey more, the staff and John the owner are so welcoming, friendly, informative and passionate about what they do. You get to see the birds up close and no question is a stupid one. I bought the experience for my partner and my dad as a gift and OMG it was the best gift ever, I would totally recommend, my dad will be going in August and I cannot wait for him to see what a fantastic place this is to visit. Myself and my partner are hoping to go back for another visit in the future and can well imagine my dad wont be far behind us. The birds are so well cared for and looked after.
The place itself isnt very big they have a inside and outside seating area and their food is freshly made and yummy! They have a couple of little gifts to purchase and all profits go straight back into the birds.
I had contact with John a couple of times due to a couple hiccups (purely with the post in my area at Christmas time) and John was so extremely helpful and went out of his way to ensure everything was perfect in time for Christmas. John and the staff couldn't be more helpful, so guys and gals if you love birds of prey give them a visit, look at their website and if you have any questions please contact them they will be more than happy to help.
You will be mesmorised by the birds and the profits really do help them to take good care of them.
I also spotted you could adopt any of the birds for a year, worth taking a look as its a great gift and value for money.
Thank you for a fantastic experience John and team, keep up the amazing job you're doing, you really are making a difference to these beautiful birds.

We were rather disappointed, having booked the morning 2 hour owl encounter, to handle only 4 owls and fly 2 owls.
We should have gone to Yarak a couple of years ago but on the first occasion, it was snowing, on the second occasion there was an incident in the M5 and all the roads were gridlocked. Thirdly, recently, a mix-up with dates on our part.
It seems a very well run centre with lots of owls and birds of prey.
As we were there only for the morning we do not know how many birds of prey the other people got to handle/fly in the afternoon but thought that only 4 owls in 2 hours was very poor value for money. I would not visit again.

Thank you for your review. We normally have 5 Owls during the morning but as you know one of the Barn Owls took longer than expected as he decided to go up to a high perch and sit for awhile. We cannot force an Owl to behave 100 % of the time and did apologise to people who were not bothered and found it quite funny that Freddy was being naughty. It would have been nice if you had complained at the time before leaving but you didn't so we were not aware of you being disappointed.

I visited Yarak birds for a full day experience with my 3 adult sons & we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves & can highly recommend the centre.
They have a large variety of birds of prey & the staff are highly knowledgeable.
We enjoyed feeding the birds & getting up close with the birds while they flew from one side of the barn to land on our glove & take the food.
The lunches there are plentiful & tasty too.
Huge hit for our family who love birds of prey, especially owls.

I received a gift for my 50th birthday and took my nephew here and had an absolutely incredible day with all the staff and incredibly knowledgeable dedicated and truly compassionate team. The level of care, professionalism and education here was exceptional I thought I knew a great deal about birds of prey in general, and I went away from here having learned a great deal more.

I couldn’t recommend this peaceful sanctuary for these beautiful birds of prey any more strongly…

I would like to thank all of you for a truly memorable experience and my nephew is already excited about returning very soon.

John, Peter, Meg, Holly and Curt if I remember rightly we’re all fabulous

Special thanks to all you beautiful raptors who behaved so impeccably – and a big shout out to the Chilean blue Eagle, the most graceful beautiful raptor I have ever seen…Tig,Freddie, Bruno,Buffy,Mia.. to name a few
