Interesting location with the monument and the famous viaduct, car park gets manic as the steam train passes although there are other car park opportunites just up the road.

Even a short hike with a higher view is available. Easy to get to as well as a spoy to grab a snack and shop.

Turn your back on the coaches and Harry Potter fans and carefully cross the road to see this beautifully located monument celebrating a genuine moment of historic interest. The car park is very busy and a bit crazy though.

The Glenfinnan Monument was built in 1815 as a tribute to the Jacobite clansmen who fought and died in support of the (failed) rebellion of Prince Charles Edward Stuart—Bonnie Prince Charles. In 1745, the prince rowed ashore at the north end of Loch Shiel and...More

Great view from the top of this monument. The viaduct can be seen easily. Free to NT members. It is quite a small exit to get out at the top and worth squeezing through.

We were headed towards the ferry for the Isle of Skye. Glenfinnan was along our route so we had a scheduled stop at a rest stop by the monument. We actually got there before the shop opend up so we just did a quick hike...More

Nothing much to see. The loch behind is impressive, but the monument has not much information released and is smaller then expected.

Visited mid afternoon in late August and the carpark was packed. Couldn't understand why until I saw the hoards of visitors going in the other direction to see the 'Harry Potter' viaduct! Sad that so many want to see something from fiction rather than learn...More

It was super rainy when we went to view the monument so our opinions are not the best of it since the view was obstructed by rain. Overall, there isn't much to see. If you are a Harry Potter fan, its cool to see the...More

The place was heaving with visiting tourists when I visited. The view from the top is excellent and was another connection with the Bonnie Prince Charlie story. It is certainly worth the time it takes to look at the exhibition and climb the monument.

Going to the website might be helpful as we did not use the parking lot and I'm not sure. Good luck.

Time of visit is not problem, because monument is accessible all time without any closed gates or fee. I recommended you climbing on small hill on opposite side of monument. From there is very nice view to monument and lake... More

As far as I know you can take dogs down to the lake and the monument itself, although not inside because of the very narrow staircase. As long as they are on a leash and under control (and obviously clean up after them if... More
