Alona Beach is a testimony to awfulness….
It’s such a shame to see a beautiful beach and town turned into a dump. So surprised when we got here. Reviews and pictures certainly looked decent enough. However this place is awful. About time we checked out and went somewhere (anywhere) better than this.

    A bit surprised
It looks like a little Boracay. Lots of restaurants & bars. Lots of massages offered and there are massages with a happy ending offered to the boys during the night😲. It's unbelievable, I mean It looked like a decent beach on photos but its not specially during the night. It's great for boys night out partying and drinking.

    Beautiful beach worth spending at
I was there in Alona Vida Beach resort for business. It is a lively place and I was an odd man out as it is a beach front hotel with a nice restaurant at the front having a love band playing. Alona is a small stretch of beautiful beach with lots of restaurants and beach front activities. Scuba diving, snorkeling, para salining activities are starting from the beach so have lots of people soliciting services. Evenings are livelier with restaurants, bars, massage parlours, springing to life.

We stayed for a few nights at Alona Beach in Bohol, and were somewhat disappointed with this area in general. It was far more touristy and tackier than we had expected and was often overcrowded and noisy. Luckily, we stayed at the Blue Ocean Hotel at the end of the beach which made all quite tolerable. After Alona Beach we took the ferry to Siquijor and had a much nicer stay at the Coco Grove Resort hotel there. We did take up an offer from the many guides pushing trips along the beach and spent the better part of one day with a combination guide and driver showing us around the island. The weather was not the best, but it is really the easiest and most convenient way to do a trip like this. I would probably avoid the larger group tours as the cost for the two of us for the whole day was probably less than $40 just by ourselves. Water activities are pushed on you everywhere, so there is a lot to choose from…but pick carefully.

We stayed at the Henann Resort for 5 nights and so feel very “in touch” with making a comment about Alona Beach. Coming from Sydney, Australia we found the beach very lack luster. ( I am biased , but we have some of the best beaches in the world). Too many boats moored on the shore to take tourists on tours. Smell of kerosene all the time. Overpriced and not so great cafes and restaurants line the beach attracting tourist dollars. Yep - all very underwhelming.

Alona Beach is said to be the best in Bohol. I have to agree. Clean shoreline. Fine white sand. But now that the economy is opening up , many people are already seen peddling wares such as massage, island hopping, motor water activities. Even Henann has many people offering many items in its location.

We went looking for the best motorbike rental near Alona beach. “Alona tourist service” had the best online reviews so we were willing to pay some more for their services even though many others in the street had better prices. We took a Honda bike for 600p per 24 hours. Great bike. But the company has attached all license plates with tiewraps and during the driving ours must have fell off. We did not even touched the plate. Of course it did happen during our rental period. But we could have done nothing to prevent it from happening. Not a big problem: things happen. But when we came back with the bike, the guy in the store told us to wait. He tried to call his boss on several numbers for about 20 times without an answer. He decided to keep ALL of our deposite 500p (that is almost the same amount of a total 24hr rent including insurance). He told us that his boss would charge him the deposit if he would not take it from us, and that if he could reach his boss the amount of money we had to pay would be even higher then the deposit itself. All the bikes this company offers for rent have license plates with tiewraps. If one is not attached and falls off without you even knowing it; they will keep all of your money!! Beware it’s just an other shady way of taking money from the tourists..

Even if we had heard wonders about this place, we were breathtaken by the beauty of this beach. We witnessed gorgeous sunsets from the Amorita swimming pool, which oversees the whole stretch of sand and sea. Clean waters with LOTS of colorful fish and sealife you can observe even outside the water, at naked eye. Amazing.

I bet this beach was so beautiful before all these useless cafes were built and 1000s of people arrived. It has definitely lost its vibe unfortunately. Beach is very narrow and shallow. Worth spending 3-4 days only to go swim with turtles and visit virgin island (whole day), swim with whale sharks and go see tarsiers. There are couple good dinner options like Sisa Bistrot. If budget allows, go to Crimson hotel in Boracay for an absolute dream bounty come true with private beach, crystal water and unbelievable untouched beauty.

Large, soulless beach
Lots of tourists, music...
In the evening, it's crowded with restaurants on the beach 2 to 3 times more expensive than elsewhere in the Philippines
It's up to you whether you want to come back to Europe here or escape elsewhere in Bohol and really see this magnificent country?

Overrated beach. The water is clear and the sand white, but the beach is not deep so there is no real place to chill and anyway with all the noise and people you can’t chill (prefer White Beach for that).
So many street sellers, massage....
we had our hotel there (Henann) but we never hung out at the beach, we preferred to tale our motorbike and leave for White beach or Damaluan beach!

I stayed in the Hennan Resort which is on the beach. The water is gorgeous and the sunsets are beautiful, but you can't walk along the beach let alone lie down without being hassled by tour, massage and trinket vendors. Worth a walk through and maybe a quick swim but I wouldn't plan to relax here.

Travelling through Bohol lots but I do like time spent here in Alona.

Nice water to swim with plenty options for drink and food. Spent 3 days around here just relaxing and enjoying the space.

For sure with September + the tourist will arrive, Alona will become very busy and noisy with party times.

I prefer low season to better enjoy
