- ems203London, United Kingdom21 contributionsA special place full of kind people. This was my second time visiting, however, this time I had my mother with me and I went late afternoon rather than early morning. We had a wonderful time, soaking up the atmosphere as the sun was setting and the birds were heading to bed so lots of song. Perhaps the best part of our visit was how incredibly kind people were to us. My mum is frail, and we were offered a wheelchair which we accepted. It made it much easier for mum to see and appreciate the complex. In fact, people were so kind, that they regular signaled to the disabled access points so that we didn't miss them. If you don't like crowds, I would suggest visiting in the morning, as the afternoon slot is very busy and there is more noise which can be distracting.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 29 December 2023
- shrikant_ensoPune, India112 contributionsMust go to experience the ' peace of mind'A good walk inside the property, takes you to different buildings. The most visited place probably in kolkata. It's normally closed in afternoon hours, so we had to move around to kill time and reach back at 4pm. The spacious walkways, Dissciplined and well manged locations with distinctive signage are the plus features. Very nice place to go and spend 2 ~ 3 hours of quite time to yourself. Definitely worth the visit and plan for half a day.Visited February 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 6 March 2024
- Avishek KKolkata (Calcutta), India2 contributionsThe excellent beauty and holiness of this place to be considered only through a positive thought process.Thank you, Swami Ji. We human beings are the last stage of holy purification on planet earth of the universe, rather universes if exists. We must have to understand and realize this first. Our character is a mixture of both Godish and Devilish natures always balancing between themselves. We can focus on both the darker and brighter side of anything. Is not good to see the good only in everything and ignore the bad. let us improve our thought process first. There is a huge rush here always. The attendees here are always trying to fulfill everyone's demands who are coming to visit. So let us not dig out the bad in in them, like how rude are they behaving with people when things are a bit out of control. Like all of us, the attendees or people in Belur Math are continuously competing with themselves every day to be better than the last day and be more positive minded. So let us always be with and enjoy the best and good things of nature. We really enjoyed the day on 14th July, 2024 and the excellence of the place overwhelmed us.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 16 July 2024

There’s a convenient boat ride from Dakshineswar Kali Mandir to Belur Math. Boats ferry frequently & for a reasonable fee. The Math is the core of the Ramakrishna movement & an oasis of calm.
From the gate, it is a nice, serene walk with different Math buildings on both the sides of the walkway. Note that the Ramakrishna Museum is closed on Mondays.
Sri Ramakrishna Mandir resembles a temple, a mosque, & a church, seen from different angles. The central dome has Renaissance architecture influence. Inside, pillars in a line on both sides are in the Greek style.
On top of the Temple is a golden kalash with a lotus below. Sit & meditate for some time.
Swami Vivekananda Mandir stands on the spot where Swamiji’s mortal remains were cremated. He’d prophesized he’ll not live to be forty-years old & it came true! Holy Mother’s Mandir is over the area where Sarada Devi’s mortal remains were cremated.
Swami Brahmananda Mandir is built on the place where Swami Brahmananda (a direct disciple of Sri Ramakrishna) was cremated.

Belur Math is the headquarters of the Ramakrishna Mission, founded by Swami Vivekananda. It is located on the bank of Hooghly River, Belur, West Bengal. The temple is the heart of the Ramakrishna movement. It has a beautiful architecture that combines Hindu, Islamic, Buddhist, and Christian art and motifs as a symbol of unity of all religions. We visited the Math in the evening time in Nov’22. The Math has an expansive and well maintained complex. There is a provision of shoe rack at the entry of the Math. When we visited, the main temple was open but other temples were closed. We visited the main temple and spent some quiet time there. There was moderate crowd in the temple. The calmness in the temple and premises is maintained, photography inside the temple premises was restricted however people were taking phot despite repetitive reminders by the security and staffs. Overall, it was a peaceful visit to the Math.

Beluṛ Maṭh is the headquarters of the Ramakrishna Math and Mission, founded by Swami Vivekananda, the chief disciple of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. It is located on the west bank of Hooghly River, Belur, West Bengal, India and is one of the significant institutions in Kolkata. This temple is the heart of the Ramakrishna Movement. The temple is notable for its architecture that fuses Christian, Islamic, Hindu and Buddhist art motifs as a symbol of unity of all religions.
The design of the temple was envisioned by Swami Vivekananda and the architect was Swami Vijnanananda, a direct monastic disciple of Ramakrishna. Sri Ramakrishna Temple was consecrated on 14 January, the Makar Sankranti Day in 1938.
The Ramakrishna temple at the Belur Math is designed to "celebrate the diversity of Indian Religions" and resembles a temple, a mosque, a church if seen from different positions. The architectural style and symbolism from a number of religions have been incorporated into the design of the temple at Belur Math, to convey the "universal faith" in which the movement believes. The temple is considered as a prime example of the importance of "material dimension" of religion.
There are always many pilgrims and some kind of peace.

Namaste,
I am planning to visit
Belur math and Dakshineshwar on 9th April. What is the best way to travel from kolkata airport to Belur math? Is there a bus service?
2) From math, ferry service or bus to dakshineshwar?
3) After Dakshineshwar, which other places can I visit till 8:30pm?
4) Any good places for food, dinner?, good bengali dishes or mithai?
5) I am in Kolkata on that day from
2:30pm to 8:30 pm. Have to catch a train from Sealdah rly station 8:30. Being a Friday, evening will there be lot of traffic in reaching sealdah rly station?

How can I reach believe math from dakshineshar Kali temple without ferry
Written 21 March 2017
You can take a taxi.
I had recently travelled by taxi from Kamarhati area which is another 4.5 km further away from Dakshineswar Kali Temple to Belur Math in the afternoon and it was a smooth ride - no traffic may be because of afternoon time. Please note that Belur Math opens at 3.30 pm in afternoon only.

Srr,if you have money, you can avail a car with your friend to have a long journey from New Market to Belur Math and on the way you may hault here and there to take tea snacks,or juices or anything else.I prefer to go to the Howrah station by bus and by local train to reach Belur station, which also looks like Belur Math. You will be moved by the beauty of this Belur station first and your mind will be prepared for paying a holy bow as you reach the spot Belur Math.1/2 hours you save for your journey from New market to this Belur Math.Regards.

how long does it take to go there from Kempton hotel (new market area). and how do you get there
Written 25 April 2015
There are lot of option to reach there from your hotel. If you can make it on Sunday or on any holiday,as the traffic is very less and you can make it smoothly.
One of the best option on any day is to take a cab from your hotel to Babughat it will take 5 to 7 minutes, take ferry from Babughat to Howrah, you will enjoy the ride, then take a cab to Belurmath or take a local train from howrah to belurmath, the train is not frequent if you need i can give the timings of those local trains. If you need any assist for Kolkata or nearby you can message me at +919836606999.
