Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Quiet well maintained (outdoor) museum. Very interesting, a nice walk around ancient buildings. Parc and Museum are well maintained, audio tour with different languages is included in ticket prices. We visit the museum at a very hot day and received some water at the entrance! The cafetaria was closed but cold water was available.

My husband and I spent four hours at this incredible museum today. We live for half the year at an hour's drive south in the Charente Maritime but were not aware of this museum because of the cost of advertising prohibiting the marketing attention it deserves. Discovered and carefully excavated in 1840, the site has been sympathetically and accurately re-constructed. The museum itself is striking in its beauty. The building retains the characteristic beams and stonework of an ancient farmhouse yet is constructed also with large sheaths of glass. The feeling is of a bridge built to connect the pre-historic and Neolithic ages with today's world. The displays are educational and beautifully catalogued. The outside walking tour of the dolmens, though, is the piece de resistance. Spectacular! Like going back thousands of years, all the while reminded of the best of human ingenuity and will to utilize the natural materials of one's environment to survive. Recommend making the effort to visit this site.

Nice archeologic site outiside with a supportive museum inside. The audioguide is good in diferent langages and also for the outside. The museum in itself is a little bit old fashioned for my taste but has an audio guide for children... So decide on your own

Museum itself is well laid out, interesting and doesn't take too long. Guided tours or audio self guided are available. I stuck to reading the labels and asking for help if needed (I now know that silex is the French for flint!) Walk to the tumuli not too long and these were fascinating when you think how long ago they were constructed. Kids enjoyed running in and out of the maze (which has test your knowledge hints at each turn!) An absolutely huge site and loads of picnic places. The wild cherries were fruiting so we scrumped some. Cafe does various drinks and pancakes, but lets you sit at the outside tables as long as you like. Very welcoming, all the staff were friendly and full of advice. Only drawback for me was dogs not allowed so he had to stay in the car.
They run activities for all ages from 3 upwards and the programme looked fun, so a family could easily spend a whole day here (most activities needed to be booked)

We spend a very enjoyable and interesting couple of hours here, great value as well as it only cost €4.50 each including English audio guide. The museum is modern and easy to follow and took us about an hour. Outside are several original tombs and reconstructions, again easy to follow the tour with the audio to explain what we were looking at or walking through. We are not hard core history buffs but this was a great way to spend 2 or 3 hours.

Out inb the countryside you just do not expect to find a site like this wirth an excellent modern museum and a real feeling of history. Difficult to believe our distant ancestors could achieve the building of these tombs and that they remain to this day, also an excellent centre for educating kids.

Glad we stopped here on our travels! Such a unique place to visit and so interesting, walking in the steps of such ancient history. The english handsets provided all the information required and each piece was no more than a few minutes, with option to hear more if required. The Tumuli themselves were amazing and incredible that they are in as good a condition after such a long, long time. Some you can enter into the burial chambers and others you can just walk around. Many fossils can be seen in the limestone and lizards scurry the stone walls. The cool museum was packed with artifacts and nice to walk around on a hot day.

This is an interesting site for history buffs. They have headsets in english. They say there are numbers on the sites, that you put into the headset, but most of the numbers are missing. However, if you just start with 1 and work up into the 30s, you can figure out where you are supposed to be. Lots of interesting historical facts about stone age peoples. If it is nice out, it is nice to walk around the ruins. If you are not interested in history or it is a rainy day, this might not be much fun. The tumulus aren't much to look at, but now that I understand what they are, I better appreciate all of the domains I have visited.

Was not sure what to expect so it was a pleasant surprise to see such a modern building housing the museum. The grounds were also lovely too. It was interesting to see the site and learn about it with an audio guide, which was provided in different languages and very helpful! Good activity for an afternoon out in the sun!

Arrived at the site around lunchtime. Good picnic area which we made use of before visiting the museum and site. Kids, aged 8 and10 were interested engaged in the hands on activities. Excellent English audio guide. Museum staff were friendly and helpful. We were all done by 4pm. Exceptional value ... kids go free. Don't forget suncream and hats.
