Twycross Zoo is renowned as a specialist primate zoo and has a wide variety of monkeys and apes including the UK's only group of bonobos. We have breeding groups of many endangered primate species so we often have babies and toddlers playing around in our orang utan and bonobo groups, and in many of our monkey groups. Set in more than 80-acres, we have around 900 animals of more than 160 species to see, including many native species in the Zoo's Nature Reserve. You can walk with our ring-tailed lemurs in their new walk-through enclosure; see our giant tortoises sunbathing in their new grass area and watch our penguins take their daily walk. Our keepers present regular talks and feeds where you can learn a bit more about some of our animals such as the chimpanzees, penguins and meerkats. Twycross Zoo's award winning Education Department offers a variety of discovery opportunities for many different types of groups and parties. The Zoo holds the Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge, all sessions are curriculum linked and all are designed to best engage all age groups.

We came during the half term and had a thoroughly enjoyable visit. The highlight of the visit was the gibbons in their amazing enclosure, Storm was so funny and had my Daughter in fits of laughter with his antics, we could have watched him all day! Facilities were clean and well maintained and staff were lovely, some taking time to... More

Fantastic place to go with family and we went in the rain! There was an electric buggy for my Nana for only £12. We had 3 young girls and they all loved how many different monkeys there are. I have been to Colchester zoo many times as we live near it and as great as it is, it's huge and... More

Small selection of animals compared to other zoos I've visited. Could take a leaf our of Edinburgh Zoo's book when it comes to making animals more visible and paths less muddy. Generally looks pretty run down and some of the enclosures lack imagination and space. Really needs updated. I think UK Zoos in general should go look at San Diego... More

The zoo has a welcoming entrance and we went to the paying booths which had no queues. The animals were well signposted. All animals had access to outside areas however every one was inside- it was a chilly day. The paths were quite muddy, and the penguin pool was very murky. The only place we could see to eat that... Having been to Twycross zoo several times in the past and having always loved it, I felt as though I needed to write my disappointment on today's visit. I brought along my 2 friends and there 3 children all aged under 3 for a day out. They were so excited to be there but especially excited to see the parrots... More

Took the children on our half term. I dont think it was half term locally as the place was deserted. Pricey to get in but a good clean zoo with plenty to see and do. We went on a very very cold day which didnt help us but that was our choice! Food in the main cafe was expensive and... More

This was my first visit to Twycross zoo and I had a throughly amazing day even though it was quite cold. Only negative I have is the indoor of the elephant enclosure had severely restricted view so I didn't get to see them, Not great for small children. Animals were all really active would really recommend.

A very clean zoo with lots of different animals for the kids to see. It's a shame they don't have lions or tigers but they have lots of other animals to look at which all seem to have plenty of space which is nice.

We visited yesterday - 3, 7 and 10 year old. All of them enjoyed it. Arrived at opening and we were finished by about 2.30 so not quite a whole day out. I think it would be better if it was more interactive, there were plenty of talks going on but my children were desperate to hold something (anything!). It... More
