Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Us 72 year old grandparents took respective 8year old boy and 6 year old girl grandchildren on Tuesday 29th August. Delighted at tge situation on outskirts of residential area but with completely authentic atmosphere of the past on arrival
Lovely green space for children to run around, picnic tables a plenty and the magic Grus awaiting. Excellent talks by two very enthusiastic and knowledgeable young guides that all children immediately warmed to. Super vlay necklace making activity inside the Granary before safe and enjoyable Romans and Barbarians mock battle was staged in the amazing Gyrus! Children loved every minute and were also given lots of opportunities to hold chain mail armour and sword weaponry. Small shop. No food. Very very good value for money. Thank you to all staff for such a memorable and inexpensive day ! Highly recommended.

What a great, and inexpensive, experience. The knowledge and enthusiasm of the staff simply cannot be faulted. The 'legionnaire' took time to explain what it was like to serve in the roman army and skillfully showed youngsters armour and weapons. The jeweller showed them how to make necklaces and armour decorations to the pattern of those excavated on site, and the commander of the fort no less was persuaded to demonstrate his hand-made suit of armour.

My grandson's day was then made by being allowed to fight in the arena like a roman soldier in training, though I expect the roman soldier had something more deadly than foam swords and javelins!

The place is magical but the staff are phenomenal with kids. My wee boy isn't very confident and he was being a soldier like everyone else.
Great displays, well stocked and well priced wee shop and great activities.
Again I can't help praise the staff for being so enthusiastic, welcoming, helpful and friendly and sorry we had to dash off.
We will definitely be back.

We took our five year old to a half term afternoon where you could make a sword, scabbard and sword belt and then do some play fighting. Our son Rory had an absolute blast! We were really impressed with the whole set up and all the staff made lots of effort to keep everyone engaged, especially Rufus. We'll definitely look to go back for future events.

This was probably one of the cheapest, but most enjoyable trips out this summer. It’s not fancy, there aren’t any refreshments etc, but the enthusiasm generated by the two “Roman” hosts whilst making our paper bejewelled belts and the gladiator challenge that followed was just brilliant. They had such an obvious sense of fun, but also a wealth of knowledge. The hut was much cooler than expected in 30c, and the artefacts, helmets etc to try on added another dimension.
Thank you- guys you really earned your dinarii!!

A fantastic two hours worth of entertainment for our son, who is studying the Romans at school. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable and engaging. We really enjoyed our visit. Wrap up warm and enjoy doing battle!

We had a great afternoon's visit here. It is impressive anyway to see how it would have looked and get an idea of the layout, with lots of information boards to explain more, and a small museum with examples of armour and finds on the site. But it was brought to life, especially for the children, by the brilliant and knowledgeable staff and the activities they led. My children, aged 4 and 6, loved trying on the armour and learning how to fight like Romans - we visited Warwick Castle the day after, but it is still learning to be Romans they have been talking about since! At a tiny fraction of the price of Warwick Castle, it is an absolute bargain and a great afternoon out

What a great day out! The staff were incredibly knowledgeable and interacted with the children the whole time. They could try on the armour, play Baird games and even had a mini battle. And so reasonably priced too. We will definitely go again.
