We took a day trip to see three medieval villages. Rupit is around 7000 ft. It was cool damp day but that made it feel even more medieval. Lots of cool buildings in the mountain setting. We enjoyed it and at a local restaurant that was one of the best meals we had on out 17 Barcelona vacation. The surroundings make it a great choice to visit.

Rupit is a charming town filled with stone houses and natural rock streets. I got the feeling that not much has changed in the last 100 years in this peaceful town, which may explain why the locals are so friendly! The hanging bridge that leads to the centre of the village was a bit of a trial ... I was prepared for the height, but the blasted thing also started to sway when I was half way across, leading to some anxious moments. Fortunately a friendly local showed me another route across the river. Speaking of which, there are many walking trails around the village and into the nearby cliffs and to a small waterfall which make for a pleasant afternoon hike.

If you ever want to feel like you are living in a city witch is 600 years old... go to rupit.! It is gem.!! Waterfalls going through the city. The architecture and the small passages through the little town are aimplu charming. It is suprisingly quite during the week when toir busses leave. And you can just wander in the alleys like if you were in game of thrones... my hotel room was in a wonderful setting just near a suspended bridge that joins both sides of the waterfalls.... supppppperb place to visit.!!

Make the effort to wander around this lovely town. There is something to see around every corner and the history is everywhere. There is a lot of up and down and cobblestone streets so make sure that you wear good footwear. I had a couple of hours in this town as part of a day trip but will be returning to spend more time relaxing in this gorgeous location.

While out on a day trip visiting smaller towns outside Barcelona, this was our second stop. It's a town pretty much between mountains and a small stream, which makes for a very fairy tale like setting. take the time to cross the wood bridge into town and then either get some lunch or walk a couple of the trails that lead you around the town and to a small church with a nice view. Very relaxing if looking for something peaceful outside Barcelona. Almost all the buildings here are made of slabs of stone with multiple balconies, and everything is very well kept up and clean. Not to be missed if you get the chance to go.

Rupit is called as a fairy tale village, because of its romantic air, old Romanesque houses, cobblestone streets of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
Besides of the village own´s architecture beauty, it´s also about the peace and quietness of the isolated mountainous area. When wandering around this beautiful village, I tried to hold my breath and keep silent as much as I could because I was afraid that one small noise can destroy this beautiful picture and wake me up from this sweet dream. Attentively listening to the bird singing, the murmur from the village stream, watching light smoke from stone houses´chimneys, enjoying the smell of Spring grasses brought me to a world in fairy tales.
For people who love trekking, there is a small trail through the village from the bottom to the top of the hill. From the top you can see a water fall and the old church with the Baroque style. You can also experience the strong feeling when walking through the hanging bridge which only carry maximum 10 people at the same time.

The drive to get here from Olite was very picturesque and the town itself was incredible. There was so much I loved about this very small mountain village of approximately 500 people at most; I don't know where to begin. It sits at the foot of the Pyrenees. The stone houses and streets and steps made of natural rock, sloping down, and reaching up depending on which direction you are heading st the tone. There are interesting walks through the town and park like area and much to see around the village and nearby cliffs including the Baroque-era Church of Sant Miquel. There is a small river that runs through the town surrounded by beautiful trees and trails leading to the Sallent waterfall. It was here where we came upon some beautiful white ducks resting and enjoying the water, not far from the hanging bridge that offers access to the village. Rupit is about 100 km from Barcelona and is really worth the visit. It is a most unique town. A rock wall dominates the village. The rock, called “rupes”, is where you will find the castle - dating back to 1000, the castle which is now in ruins. The village gets it's name from the rock. From this town, we went to visit Castlellfollit de la roca and then onto Besalu, both villages very much worth visiting and combing with the our trip to Rupit. We rented a car while visiting Spain, and made a point to see these three towns which were some of the highlights of our 16 day trip through Northern Spain. There are also companies that offer tours of these locations. Rupit is a must see, but if in the area, try to take in all 3 towns, you'll be happy you did.

This place is a real treat! Pretty hard to get to, but well worth the visit. The town has kept its original character, but still feels alive. A lot of old towns seem like a run down historical relic, but not Rupit.
There is lots to explore and some nice bars/places to eat.

Relaxing to have a tasty lunch in this town that perched on the escarpment of the ravine, with cascading water full of nature melody.

Hola !!

Siento desalentarte.

Are the chairs still on the walls? They were art work. The first ones were close to the bridge!
Written 7 February 2016
Yes the chairs are still sticking out sideways from the walls in a couple alleys here.
