Gentle sloping beach with soft sand and great for kids and gentle swimming. Has toilets& outside shower and a boardwalk to the beach.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 20 October 2023

- Deanne W1 contribution*Relatively* untouched little Canarian gemThis is absolutely our new favourite spot in the Canaries. Having lived in Gran Canaria and visited all the Canary Islands I was amazed that I had missed this beach for years. It has made Fuerteventura our go-to island for family breaks. The beach and lagoons are just stunning. Quite small, but once the tide is out and the water is calm, the sun warms up the water and it's just a delight to swim and snorkel. It's about as untouched as any area near the coast in the Canaries can be. Some lovely restaurants and little shops. Not like the big resorts, but so much more lovely for that. Highly recommend a visit.Visited February 2023Travelled with familyWritten 21 January 2024
- Ann HYork, United Kingdom2,524 contributionsWorth a visit!!!This place is a world away from the busyness of Caleta. Beautiful views, very quiet and a lovely place for a chill or a swim or a walk. Lots of places to eat and drink in the main town too.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 February 2024
- Rantin roverBiggar, United Kingdom9,047 contributionsAttractive small town and quiet sandy beachesDespite progressive development over the years El Cotillo still has a sleepy town atmosphere which very much appeals to us as visitors. At the time of our most recent trip there was a lot of construction going on at the northern end of the town, opposite the Hotel Coral Cotillo Beach and near some new apartments which had opened recently. We had intended booking one of these until we discovered about the works and stayed in Corralejo instead. A lot of the development in El Cotillo has been on an upmarket basis. There have been several attractive looking new restaurants opened since our last visit and a few boutique shops, including those in renovated old buildings. Hopefully the town will retain its charm. The beaches to the south of town, beyond the old castle tower, are long and sandy. The area is favoured by surfers (including surf schools) and wind surfers. Access is via rough paths from the cliffs above. It has the advantage of being within a short walking or driving distance of the town where there are plenty of facilities for eating and drinking. The coastline to the north of the town towards the lighthouses and beyond has lots of sandy areas, interspersed with rocks. However there is still plenty of opportunity for gentle sloping beaches into the sea for a dip. This is the area known for the lagoons and the further from town, the more likely you are to have areas shared by “textiles” and naturists. Lots of stone shelters have been built on the beaches over the years to provide an escape from the wind (and possibly some privacy). Beyond the lighthouses the road is unsurfaced and very bumpy so if driving or cycling be prepared for a rough ride. There are no facilities in this area at all so you need to go prepared or return to town for creature comforts, food and drink. Neither the town or the beaches have been crowded in our experience of visiting over a number of years. If you like a bit more buzz, best to stay in nearby Corralejo or one of the other larger resorts.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 March 2024
- lucilasticSouth West England, United Kingdom4,104 contributionsAnother great visitGreat beach never crowded and safe swimming. Some naturists at the northern end and you can also find a beach to yourself here. The new beach bar cafe was a huge dis’s appointment after the excellent torinos that was there before. Our drink’s portions for coffee and wine were tiny.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 28 April 2024

Extremely quiet, very few bars and shops nothing on the beach except one bar which has a couple of toilets but is a trek depending where you sit on the beaches. Beaches are lovely some with rocks others with golden sand and all beautiful clear water. Its not like other resorts with all the usual shops that sell the same of everything these were mainly handcrafted items. Hand craft market on a friday was very small. Local bus to Correlejo is reasonably priced (we were told) and worth a visit, we took advantage of hotel free bus but only had a couple of hours so didn't see much of correlejo but it was busier. If you just want to rest and not spend money then this is definitely the place to go.El cottilo harbour was like a little cornish village.
Took about an hour transfer from the airport. Weather was lovely in the day but chilly in the evening needed long trousers and long sleeve top.

Beautiful golden sand beaches and clear blue sea with a shallow lagoon at high tide. The main Concha beach is naturally protected by rocks so feels safer than the main beaches when it is a bit rough.
It would have been perfect but for the numerous naked people who seem to insist on walking close by us and standing nearby. Considering, due to Covid, people are supposed to be social distancing, they were unsocial and far too close for my liking! Since Fuerteventura seem allow naked sunbathing everywhere we can't seem to get away from them, and it has almost put us off returning here after previous visits. I don't mind if they keep themselves to themselves, but they don't, and seem to relish in coming by clothed people and standing close by for what seems like a long period of time.

We took the bus from Corralejo to El Cotillo for around £3 each way and it took around an hour.
El Cotillo has a fantastic long and sandy beach which is easily accessible ,plenty of space and used by surfers ,sunbathers and a few naturists.
The town itself is quite dull some adventurists shops, cafes, a supermarket and tourist shops.
El cotillo is the type of place you would visit but probably not stay...a haven for campervan enthusiasts of which there were many.

Overhyped beach & lagoons these are! Entire El Cotillo beach strech has rocky bed with lot of sea weeds in the water that too around 30mins drive from Corralejo.
However, drive 5 mins furthet along the coast towards the light house for picture perfect white sand dunes and nice lighthouse (for us white sand dunes were the highlight rather then the beach).
Had a overpriced lunch in a local restaurant with not so great fresh fish.
Overall, didn't had fun visit.
Playa Grandes have much better beaches that too just 8mins drive from Corralejo.

Where is Torinos? Removed by the council apparently to return the he lagoons to their natural state. Despite the existing buildings sand new walkway etc. no where now to buy refreshment and some of the debris still left there.
The area is also spoilt by litter and yesterday 20 campervans parked for extended stays. Where do they dispose of the poo?
4 dogs also left to roam by the campervanners. Who picks up their poo.

Beautiful beach however very wavey and doesn’t look like the pictures online. Little lagoons suitable for children. Area itself is beautiful yet isolated, taxis aren’t available and buses are reliable yet hourly so best to rent a car for a day!

The lagoons at El Cotillo are truly beautiful. The water is crystal clear and the sand just lovely. The lagoons are a great place to swim safely (with the fishes) and the beach just perfect for sunbathing. (The furthest end of the beach is a nudist beach). There is a little cafe on the beach that is really popular. The food there is great - we ate there several times!
El Cotillo is a lovely relaxed old fishing village. If you haven't found it first time around on your trip to Fuerteventura then you have truly missed a great experience!

Amazing lagoons great for swimming as calmer than most beaches here. Stunning scenery, great beach bar Torinos. Best place to sit and watch the sunset.

Beautiful white sandy beaches. It was windy when we visited and sand covered the towels we sat on within minutes. It’s the Atlantic Ocean so the knee high water takes a while to warm up, so we were told.

We love El Cotillo and have been several times. Was wondering if anyone knows of any villages with a similar vibe on any of the other Canary Islands?

Beachwear choices in July/August
Can anyone currently visiting El Cotiilo comment on the proportion of naturist and textile visitors to the lagoon areas? We will be visiting in a couple of weeks and are hoping that the school holiday season won't have put too much pressure on these naturist tolerant areas.
Written 29 July 2019
Thanks for all the answers guys. Now in El Cotillo and have visited the lagoon beaches myself. I think that it is about 90%+ textile given the holiday time. However, as that includes t shirt and shorts all the way to bikini bottoms the size of a postage stamp, anything seems accepted. Didn't have any issues spending the day with nothing but a towel and a hat to keep a cool head. I am sure some disapproved but nothing is said or done. With respect to everyone here, I hope all enjoy this gorgeous setting as they each see fit. Will try more beaches tomorrow.

Is the nudist beach in easy reach of the bus stop? And are there sunbeds available on the beach
Written 19 October 2018
from hotel entrance either go to beach and turn right and walk untill you can go in to the water .from there we saw very few nudes but keep walking to the furthest away villa and before this you see lots more even some mixed with clothed people but the further you go past the last villa the more people bathing nude but no sun beds on beach but its quicker to walk from hotel along path to last hotel turn left and walk to the last 2 villas it is about 15 to 20 mins you can hire folding beds from a shop as you walk this way for 4 euros and 30 euros deposit a day you will get 30 back but ask the hotel if they have umbrellas as we left ours but in the room by reception there are about 50 used in a box so ask them for one and they might have sun beds that fold down

Hi Eric, can i ask if you have found any good naturist accommodation on the island? Im struggling to find somewhere nice for december,
Anna
Written 15 October 2018
Anna. The Monte Marina complex in Esquinzo is fully naturist with a pool and sauna. These are SC apartments. You do have to cover up to get to the beach though, this seems to hack off a few people. Also the Jandia Princess and Magic Life AI hotels in the seame area have naturist areas

ciao e grazie per la tua recensione. Volevo chiederti come hai trovato la temperatura dell'acqua? Si può già fare il bagno?
Written 15 April 2018

We went here 27 years ago and it sounds like it's maybe changed. Is there anywhere else small on the island that is as beautiful? I'm sure you don't want to give too much away ...
Written 4 March 2018
Yes it has changed even in the past five years. At the moment there are between 35 and 40 hire cars parked each day and the nicest lagoon is more like Clacton than Cotillo. Sadly most of the babble comes from British tourists. We have started going further north towards the lighthouse: there are many coves and small bays along the coast towards Majanicho, and a lot less people!

Is El Cotillo navigable in a wheelchair?
Written 11 January 2018
The car park at the back of the beach is hard (although with a fine layer of sand). So I don’t think you’d have a problem there.
There is a short wooden walkway, from the car park part way into the beach - but not very far.
However, it’s a soft sandy beach and there are quite a few rocks towards the back. So I’d have to say, probably not unfortunately
