Classic lower north island west coast. Waves rolling in, plenty of people walking, running or simply sitting. Dogs chasing gulls and even riders training their horses. This beach so long, smooth, and hard that it's officially a road, so keep your eyes open.

The beach offers wildlife and views of the estuary and sea. The road continues on to the beach if you wish to drive on the sand. But leave the car and enjoy the walk amongst the dunes and along the beach to the sea. The driftwood makes sureal landscapes and offer excitement to the young and old alike.

This is a classic kiwi bach town. Full of life in the summer and as expected empties out in the winter. Great to be the only one walking on the beach the other week!

Park in the surf club carpark or on the reserve land or many other acess points. Wear windproof clothing it is nearly always breezy. The surf is constant and predictable, the tide gives small or large areas of sand, suitable for vehicle travel except on spring high tide. Walking around the point of the Manawatu river mouth is a good... More

I have never seen so much drift wood before. Love the speed signs on the beach, great to go for a drive on the beach with the windows open wide, awesome fun. Walk up the dunes and see if you can spot any part of the old shipwreck. The black sand is unusual. Great photo opportunities.

I always make a trip up the Kapiti coast to Loxton Beach whenever I am in New Zealand. I just love the wide open skies and the clean sand and you can walk for miles along the water. I hadn't been here in almost ten years before this recent trip and not much has changed. The small town of Foxton... More

Well recommended for an afternoon walk with the family exploring the beach and sand dunes. The various pieces of logs washed up after the last storm was fainting and gave plenty of spots for us older folk to sit and have a flask of coffe drinking in in seascape and fresh air. We had a wonderful time and will go... More

Coming from England, we loved this beach, it reminded me of Newquay before it got very popular. There is a bit of surf and some people were surfing. It is a lovely place to sit and chat with a loved one.
