I took my 9-year-old son here, and he was so excited to swim in an (inactive) volcano crater. It was very scenic and not too crowded. The water was a pleasant temperature, too.

This is a beautiful lagoon. Make sure you see it from up above where you can really grasp the beauty of it.

We had a brief visit and ate at a restaurant overlooking Laguna Apoyo. If you're looking for majestic views then you're in the right place.

This is one of the best places to swim and relax in Nicaragua. There are no vendors or (usually) crowds; just tranquil beauty and a perfect temperature clean lake.

I had such an amazing day here! I wish I'd stayed on the lake. The sand's black from the volcano but the water is incredibly clear and wonderfully warm. I kayaked out to the middle and it was so peaceful. You can do day trips...More

Great spot to spend a couple days. Beautiful view with great staff. Good base to do day trips to the city. We missed out on having a private room as it was busy. Reserve ahead of time.

There are several resorts on the laguna and a few in walking distance. I stayed at Casa Marimba. The ones on the lakefront property will be much more expensive . I would look at all options and amenities before making a... More

The main thing in Estelli is of course the fabulous cigars. I just got back inside from enjoying one each with a bud, we brought our limits back. Lol. It's nice enough area too, and we didn't have a lot of time there, but... More

I live in California, and am thinking of retiring to this region of Nicaragua. Any advice for a long term place to stay for a month or so as I look at options. I am a 60++ year old female traveling by myself- and possibily my dog is customs/animal requirements allow for this. Don't be afraid to offer ideas and suggestions-I will be on a limited budget. Thank you!
