Picked up a vw polo from Heraklion airport was in poor condition full of scratches and marks . Cigarette burn in seat . High mileage 115k and the oil change indicator on . The handler said it was ok they hadn't reset it why not ? .This car was the poorest condition ive ever hired in any country ive been too.
Thankfully it didn't let us down .
Took full insurance cover then told there was a 70 euro charge if there was any damage for paperwork..
Took a video of car before driving thankfully as it was needed on return as the handler claimed added damage which there wasn't. Showed video and she accepted. Not the best experience in car hire

I rented a Toyota, that had dust covers, which were not original but no-brands. Without any collisions, of course one of them was lost.
I was charged 70 € for a fake dust cover. No price list was shown.

We rented the car from a 4 star hotell. The car was old and only manage 80km/h. But the worst was the broken air-condition. I would expect better service

If I was to sum up my experience with Royal it would be, flawless. The bike was in very good condition. The brakes worked, the engine was sound, tires were in good condition and the suspension worked. We rent a scooter every time we come to the med so we know what we are looking for to avoid scams and hidden costs. Royal did not dissapoint; we turned up, the guy let us pick our helmets, took our details and money, offered to show us how the bike worked and we were on our way. No deposits, no KM limit, no scams, just one fair request - no dirt roads. Drop off consisted of handing our helmets and the scooter getting a quick look to make sure it was okay. Based on our experience we 100% recommend (Leaving this review here and trip advisor).

We had a nice trip in Crete, however, we had a very bad experience when dropping off the car. The hostess asked us to pay 450€ for a damage we never made.
1) The check has been done by night, without any lights and without considerations of previous rental reports and hence previous reported damages. As a result, almost nothing had been stated by the hostess, nor visible by ourself.
They recommended us to make pictures, however, except for the back of the car which was under the lights, we have not been able to take any pictures because of the dark.
2) We found a picture taken on the 3rd day of our trip with the existing damage. To our knowledge, we have never been in a situation to make that damage within the two first days.
3) Not surprisingly, the company did not want to show us the report from the last(s) rental(s), on the basis of data privacy. It is quite easy to anonymise a report while showing the date, damages etc. One more evidence telling us CreteRoyal lack of honnesty and is using damages/fees as a real source of revenue.

As discussed in the emails we exchanged after your rental, our parking place at the airport is not big, as you noticed, so check up is done there and all spots have almost the same, good lightness even when it's dark. It is not the same as during daylight, but still we never had any complaints from other customers about it.
You seem to have taken photos during check-in vehicle inspection, but still during the check-out you did not show our staff a photo with the pre-existing, as you claim, damage, as any customer would do in that case.
Regarding your request to send you rental agreements of previous customers (!), we apologize but this is one thing we cannot do, as we fully comply with data protection and privacy laws.
We understand this ending to your amazing Crete trip was frustrating, but still you must know that we work hard to provide premium service to all our customers.

To flee !!!!
Me and my partner had a great trip until this agency ruined the end by ripping us off. We collected the car at night and it was therefore difficult to see all the damaged places. We took a full video while walking around the car but the quality and brightness were too low since it was dark. We realized the next day in broad daylight that 2 impacts were on the windshield and they were obviously not marked on the contract which had been pre-filled before our arrival! Having not been hit by gravel, it was unlikely that an impact would have occurred through our fault in such a short time, but 2 impacts the probability is even lower! See for yourself the shared photo, it is a screen capture of the night video where we see 2 white dots which seem to correspond to the impacts. When returning the car, we rewatched the video and they did not want to admit that these white spots were indeed the impacts. They therefore asked us for our bank card to be able to release €500 from the €900 deposit under the pretext that the entire windshield had to be replaced. They assured us that the invoice and the repair costs at the garage will be sent to us as proof of the amount but we are still waiting! It is very likely that the repairs cost much less than €500 and that the agency never even replaced the windshield! On top of that, the lady who took care of us dared to be unpleasant and impatient with us even though we had seen through their game. She also lied by wanting us to believe that the repair costs were covered. by the insurance then the contract stipulated that this only concerned accidents. In short, they played on the fact that the impacts on the car are hardly visible when arriving at night to scam us! It is unacceptable ! I recommend you avoid Royal Rentals if you don't want your stay to be ruined!

Watch out for this car rental. They may fleece you.
Another hire car opened their door and dented my car. They admitted liability. When returning the car, Royal stated explicitly that my excess would be returned by the broker I hired the car through. They also wanted to charge me for damage already done, telling me the broker would pay. Last they told me that they would provide details of how to claim from the broker. It transpires the insurance is with Royal, not the broker. Royal have not responded to mails once the broker confirmed this in a mail. Royal will tell you anything to have you pay the excess before you get on the plane.

It transpires the insurance is with Royal, not the broker. Royal have not responded to mails once the broker confirmed this in a mail. Royal will tell you anything to have you pay the excess before you get on the plane.

An absolute catastrophe doesn't even begin to describe our experience. We went to the rental company 2 days before we needed the car. Since the rental company was a partner in our hotel, we expected a certain level of quality. The lady told us (very bored) that she only had small cars for €80 (period 9am-10pm). We decided on the VW Polo (newer model) and were to come back the next evening to sign the contract and pay.
The next day it was suddenly €90 and she only had an old Peugeot or SUVs for >€150. The 10% discount for cash payments was suddenly only for online bookings and fully comprehensive insurance was no longer available. Since we didn't have much choice, we took the Peugeot. The catastrophe began on the way there: the service light was on, the warning light for the brakes was on and the tires were unbalanced, making it impossible to drive faster than 85km/h. The dirty windows, through which you couldn't see anything in the evening, seem somehow irrelevant. My complaints the next day were skillfully ignored - we got neither empathy nor a small sorry out of the lady. Instead, she became cheeky and looked for excuses. The car wasn't worth €10 for the day but instead of a discount she wanted extra money because we were an hour later than agreed (we had to drive slowly and therefore arrived later). After long discussions and countless excuses, we left the situation and tried to avoid the lady. We should have stayed with Sixt as usual so as not to ruin our vacation.

Competitive price and quality car, booked through a broker platform. I rented a Yaris from Heraklion Airport and all worked out well. I was cautious about their zero excess insurance, but for a small extra amount I eventually purchased it; it wasn't needed anyway (thank god!) but you never know, the local roads are not the best. Professional and friendly service from the staff.

Appalling service… given one price of 45 euros for the budget car in Hersonissos town in Crete. Same company further down the road towards our hotel then quoted 50 euros, when we mentioned the 45 previously quoted the response provided was that it was the lowest end vehicle which wouldn’t be available. We decided just to pay the extra and gave a deposit. When we collected the vehicle we were charged an additional 20 euros a day… this was supposedly the insurance (we had previously had the price broken down and explained - the insurance was included in the total price of 45 euros).
We received the lowest end vehicle with several scapes - fetched from another location, even with others similar on the forecourt - so now we had paid 70 euros a day for the lowest end vehicle!
When returning the vehicle they tried to blame us and charge us for the scrape that was originally there. The man was incredibly rude and accusing prior to seeking further opinion.
This was an incredibly distressing and upsetting process.
