What a superb place. Staffed by enthusiastic and knowledge people and an absolutely huge range of excellent interactive exhibits both indoor and outdoor. The exhibits cover a wide range of themes across Science and Art so there really is something for everyone. Kids had an abolutely wonderful time. We'll be back

Spectacular Science !
Sep 2021
What can I say other than Wow and thank you ! We truly had a wonderful day exploring the Centre. The buildings and grounds are set in an amazing location nestled between sweeping hills and fields with breath taking views . Driving up to the centre you felt like you were stumbling across a film set for Dr Who! It felt very exciting. There was lots to do at discovery park for children and adults alike and my partner made full use of outside exhibits and had to be dragged away from the ' slap drums' to let other people have a turn !

We felt very privileged to see the Dome roof open and spin , something you don't see everyday and a real insight into the world of astronomy through the lens.

The Science show was held in the outside Geo Dome and we eagerly followed the flock of children and adults excitedly waiting for it to start. Niamh the presenter was fantastic at engaging the children to explore and understand Sir Issac Newton's discoveries and inventions. The kids were on the edge of their seats as the show was interactive and Niamh asked for lots of willing volunteers . Niamh was great at making the audience all feel involved. There was lots of happy children and smiley adults by the end of the show including my partner who got it hit by hammer. I enjoyed that bit!!!! Niamh was a true star and really did make science specular !

Overall, a great day out and would recommend it for families of all ages.

Best ever

An enlightening, entertaining and unique science centre. We really enjoyed the interactive science of the discovery park that combined education with lots of fun.
I particularly enjoyed being hit with hammer in the science show which was again a good combination of interesting science and facts about Sir Isaac Newton delivered enthusiastically and entertainingly by the science presenter, Niamh. We also got an exclusive preview of one of the dome roofs opening to reveal the skies above us and imagined the majesty of a night spent observing the glittering galaxies.

Best outing in years!!!!
Aug 2021 • Family
The entire experience was just incredible- my son (6 years old) was utterly enthralled and I must admit I had just as much fun as he did!! Science, physics, art, genetics, astronomy, the lot, are all introduced and put forth in an easily accessible and interactive manner, fun for all ages and informative too. Such a hidden and underrated gem ....going again with the whole family. FANTASTIC!!!!

Very interesting visit
Aug 2021 • Couples
We paid £7.75 each online for entrance ( not timed and only needed the booking number on entry) It was a very hands on experience…. Lots for children …..and we enjoyed the presentation on the telescopes in two of the domes ….done by a young lady who was learning the ropes and Gerry. To enjoy it to the full you need to be comfortable with touching lots of exhibits and be happy with no social distancing! The cafe was a little disappointing although the cakes were good ….coffees not so good in cardboard cups. There was a van selling hot dogs, burgers and chips and seating was outside or in a marquee where nothing was being looked after ie table wiping. Mask were requested inside but more than half of adults weren’t complying. Sanitising pumps were around but some were empty. In all we enjoyed our 3 hours there, but think families with children would get a lot more out of the visit

Day Out

Great day out. The kids loved it. Plenty of interactive tasks for them to do. They had great fun on the water section. Food was cheap and good quality too. Well worth a visit.
Thanks.

Great trip at good value
Aug 2021 • Family
Found the centre really interesting. Doesn't look much when you pull up but all the exhibits are well maintained and were in working order. The 12 year and 7 year old kept themselves entertained whilst learning something at the same time. Talks were interesting and kept at a level good for the kids. Really liked the play park as was more exhibits. All in all a good place to visit and good value for money..

Thank you for your review and we are pleased you all enjoyed your visit. As an educational charity, reliant upon visitors, the enforced lockdowns have led to a devastating loss of income but we are doing all that we can to continue to provide Spectacular Science to all ages and abilities. We hope you can visit again and that your positive review will encourage others to visit too.

Great educational experience for children
Aug 2021
Great playground which is just as educational as the rest of the venue. My children (8 and 6) loved the hands-on experience, and the shows were great too. Very affordable and good value for money.
We had a few showers on the day but there is plenty to do both indoors and outdoors.
The only downside was that lunch choices were very limited in the cafe - just a few sausage rolls, pre-packed sandwiches, fruit and snacks. Outside there was a van selling hot dogs and burgers/chips.

Thank you for your review. We are pleased you all had a great visit and enjoyed the science show and interactive exhibits - all designed & built by our charity. Operating in an historic Listed site means we do not always have the space we require as a tourist attraction. .. and our Cafe is located in the former Optical Laboratory of The Royal Observatory! Fortunately we had just invested (pre-Covid) in our own external catering unit so that we could provide hot food and this is now invaluable to us. Thank you for supporting us and we hope you have opportunity to visit again.

A must visit observatory

Incredible. We spent far longer here than expected. The science show was funny and well thought out. The exhibits were interesting and backed up with good explanations of what you were seeing. The outside play park with the archamedes corkscrew was fantastic. I wouldn't hesitate a return visit.
