About
Not all of the sites on Hadrian's Wall were heavily guarded fortresses. Corbridge was a supply base and bustling town where the Romans and civilians would pick up food and provisions. Today, you can still walk through the town's streets and experience a true time-capsule of Roman life. You can see a valuable hoard of objects found during excavations, including Roman armour and trinkets, which provide a fascinating insight into the life of a soldier.

    Riveting Roman afternoon
Such an interesting place, and the audio tours are really helpful. Lots of artefacts and information in the indoor museum part, and an approximately 4 acre site outside. Dressing up clothes for children! Other facilities such as toilets, parking and shop are good. You can easily walk into the adjacent town of Corbridge which has plenty of delis, bars, cafes and shops.

    Much more at Coria
The Roman Town, Coria, is in open country a mile to the west of Corbridge village. Extensive ruins, massive granaries, supply base, and barracks for large detachments of the legions from their bases to the South. One of the forts actually on the wall is the natural choice for a first visit to Hadrian's Wall. Coria underlining how big Rome's investment was is the natural complement. The Museum, recently built, is a credit to English Heritage. The elaborate timeline is interspersed with cases showing the changing sources and styles of pottery found at the site. It serves to bring together remarkable exhibits of very different kinds, for example the Corbridge hoard of a craftsman's stock or the copy of the big silver 'lanx'. Perhaps Corbridge should have the original and the British museum the copy!

A pleasant stop off whilst Roman across Northumberland…
Being English Heritage members this was an attraction on the list and we all enjoyed half an hour or so here. The exhibits were well presented in the museum and we bought some of the excellent EH Salted Caramel fudge (5 stars!). No one in the family is remotely interested in Roman history, but we enjoyed a wander round and the location was lovely! Probably should’ve taken the free audio guide, but we were enroute elsewhere so keen to watch the clock!

    Hidden jewel...go here
This is a hidden jewel, with a lovely museum. We had the tour with Linda who was excellent and engaging throughout, even putting up with my annoying g interruptions with good humour. Linda is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about Coria. Our dog Max was identified as a Roman anti-ratter for underneath the granaries...didn't expect that! English Heritage are a great guardian of our heritage with fantastic staff...

Really enjoyed the museum which was well laid out, informative and wide selection of found objects. The signs outside were good at sparking the imagination and ‘seeing’ the layout and who lived there.

You do need to book but its not complicated and very covid aware.

The best bit were the staff who were friendly and very efficient and effective. They were also very dog friendly. Only letdown was their shop. It was full of the normal type of souvenirs. I would have liked something more pertinent to Corbridge so I didn't spend anything but I would have liked to.

Very small carpark. We prebooked tickets however we couldn’t park up as the car park was full, we drove to Aydon Castle instead and then returned an hour or two later and were able to park, this wouldn’t be ideal if we didn’t have time to go away and come back.
I found the site very interesting. To begin with there is a small museum to look around and then you go out into where the ruins of the Roman town are. We only spent around 20/30 minutes here. I find English heritage quite expensive for such a short period of time spent at the places. I understand this is to help maintain the site but still think it’s quite pricey.

Saw a number of interesting artefacts in museum to complement the ruins, which were reasonably labelled. There is a toilet on site but no catering of drinks, only a machine which seemed a little pricey. Friendly helpful staff were on hand to guide us how to visit the site and direction of travel.

Friendly staff as we found everywhere along Hadrian’s Wall, this is superb.
It’s enough to see the ruins and use your imagination to see how it once was. But the signage is good and explains things well. The museum is clear and again there are many explanations relating to the finds on site and the Roman way of life.
Very impressive indeed.

We were pleasantly surprised by this Roman town. We arrived just as it started to rain and took the time to have a look at the artefacts in the museum, before joining a guided tour round the site by Ian.
His interest and passion for the Roman era were a credit to the English Heritage team.
We visited mid week and our tour was brilliant. Ian was very knowledgeable about Corbridge and the other local Roman sites, and gave us an in-depth experience.
We found out so much more than we would have just taking ourselves round.
Thank you to the staff for being so welcoming and taking the time to show us round.

Totally amazing town ❤️ Perfect for walking in Northumberland or visiting castles/ Roman sites as there’s so much to see and do close by. The town itself has everything in walking distance. Loads of great pubs, cafes and restaurants. We visited most of pubs and they were all very reasonably priced as was the food they served.

When you manage to find it - Council better brown sign marking please - this is a very good Roman remains experience. The Museum is modern, very well laid out and informative and has some unique specimens including the contents of a chest buried 2000 years ago.
Outside the Roman buildings foundations are well kept and an audio tour gives excellent information about the life and times in this part of the world.

The site itself is well preserved. Visitors are therefore allowed to roam on the ruins which is a real treat. The freely available signs on the site give you the basics; there is a free audio guide available on smartphones if you remember to download in advance.
The star of the visit is the newly renovated museum. It has been done very well and works even with the Covid one-way guidelines. Items on display have been carefully selected and displays cater both for the casual viewer and for the enthusiast.
The welcome from the staff was very friendly. It is well worth the trip. Don’t forget to book in advance.

The museum part of the site is interesting albeit the info on the wall display panels did seem to jump about a bit even though the timeline did offer a degree of chronological order. The very lengthy guided tour of the archaeological site could have been much more pithy and still have been interesting. I exited from the tour after 45 minutes of mostly standing around in the rain as I couldn’t face the anticipated 30 or more minutes of the tour that was still to go.

A very good site. The museum is well set out, for us the best of the four heritage site museums, Corbridge, Housesteads, Chesters, Birdoswald. Each site has its pluses, here the museum and size of the site, Housesteads for the best views of the wall. An informative historic timeline along one wall, a surprisingly large number of Roman items from small coins to large statues and all well described. A perfect introduction to the military settlement outside. I was surprised at the large area this cov-ered, maybe 3 or 4 football fields with the remains of walls, the main street and other interesting structures. Audio guide points exist throughout the site providing very good information.
