Nice Cathedral
Feb 2018 • Solo
Built in the 19th century in a Neoclassical style over a previous 13th century Cathedral that had been destroyed by an earthquake, and standing on top of a 3rd century B.C. temple. The only medieval feature remaining is the 13th century bell tower, under which passes the main street and sided by 4 roman statues.

Very beautiful cathedral
Sep 2018 • Couples
The Cathedral of Isernia is rather plain on the outside but very beautiful on the inside. Well worth a look! It was built on the ruins of a 3rd century temple and some of the remains can be viewed from within the Church through clear flooring. There is also a separate entrance next to the church which allows you to go underground to view many different ruins which was very interesting!

The archaelogical digs under the Cathedral, not to be missed!

This beautiful Cathedral is built on the site of a pagan temple dating back to the 3rd. century BC
Part of the temple was unearthed during archaeological excavations under the cathedral in the 80's. They are open to visitors daily, with a guide, at no charge, well worth seeing.

Beautiful church and fascinating historical site
Jul 2016 • Family
This beautiful church is definitely worth seeing for its decorative art, however the historical aspects are just as appealing. Glass floors will allow you to see the original foundation. If you are able to take a guided tour to the underground area it's well worth it to see pieces from the medieval cathedral as well as the original pagan temple.

Beautiful

A very beautiful building and definitely worth a visit.
Parts of the floor are made from glass allowing you to see the original foundations of the building which are centuries old.
Lots of pieces of religious art are also worth looking at and particularly the dome which has beautifully painted frescos on it which really is fantastic.
