Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Quimperlé is a small town that can be visited in two hours. Riversides with flower bridges are a subject for photographers, as are medieval houses. The main attraction remains the abbey. A unique example of a round church with its four arms forming a Greek cross. An exhibition space traces the history of the place. The town has less interest.

Not your usual traditional church, very much circular which adds to the magic of this place. Well worth a visit if you are in Quimperle

We visited the Abbaye Ste Croix whilst walking around the small town of Quimperle. I would recommed a visit to this church if you are in the town anyway. There is interesting architecture to be viewed and the unusual split level means you can easily spend 30 minutes or so slowly wandering around. Entry is free but you can light a candle or leave a donation.

I would not make a special trip to view this church however if you find yourself in Quimperle I would recommend you stop in.

Lovely, simple abbey church: not a tourist attraction, but a great example of the kind of abbey of which there are thousands in France

Unusual church, formerly an Abbey much restored in a sympathetic way with lots of interesting artefacts and architecture. Romanesque in style and constructed on two levels with chapels on all four sides.

A wonderful Romanesque church - even if much of it had to be reconstructed in the C19 when the bell tower collapsed. The cloister was, sadly, closed when we were there, but the church on its own is worth a detour.

It is a Roman style church. In the middle, there is a stone stage where the mass is celebrated.

There is also a crypt that is know to cure some pain if you go under tombs

It would be perfectly possible to visit Quimperle without discovering this place, hidden as it is behind the gendarmerie. A quick look on Google maps is a giveaway, as the circular roof is readily apparent.

This historic round church is still in use today. It is fascinating to read about its history which is documented within its walls. From the outside, nothing much: but wonder with me at the faith of those who built it, and what it has meant to its community over the years. Highly recommended.

According to tradition, this unusual church was built in the 11th century for an abbey of Benedictine monks. L'Abbeye Sainte-Croix (the abbey church of the Holy Cross) has a circular plan with a porch on one side and three semi-circular apses around the main wall. The space inside the rotunda seems vast, and must have seemed miraculous when it was built. The plan may have been copied from the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. The roof is held up by four massive piers in the centre of the rotunda. Between two of these piers steps lead up to the sanctuary and the high altar on a platform suspended like a bridge between all four piers, with other steps leading down to a semi-subterranean crypt below. The sanctuary and the crypt are thus in the middle of the church, one above the other, and both are visible from the body of the church. The church contains some rare treasures, including several ancient tombs In the 11th century crypt and a 16th century carved-stone tableaux of life-size figures at the entombment of Christ. There is a beautifully ornate 16th century retable in one of the side chapels. The adjoining abbey and cloisters are now occupied by the police and judiciary and are not accessible to visitors.

I know i'm not really for the target market for this kind of place. However it was free and only took me 10 minutes to look around, so worth the diversion. But there are lots more interesting architectures to see just from walking around the town. I wouldn't recommend the train tour unless you are French speaking, as all the commentary is in French! If we had of known that we would not have bothered. I cant remember the last tour i was on which wasn't done in English?!
