The location of this museum is really great - just at the foot of the mountain. I personally really liked he layout of the museum. I also got to see the projection mapping show which was really cool. There's even a little area for young kids to play on inside the museum. There are tables to eat on. There are also displays of the different kinds of bugs, leaves, etc. inside. I think it's a great place for a rest either before or after going up the mountain.

It was an unexpected visit, really.
We were on our way back to sta. on a different route from高尾山when we chanced upon it at a road junction. So unique building perched at an open area with the mountain as its backdrop! Instead of a quick toilet break we end up going through all the display/exhibits and even had cake/drink while resting .
Takao 599 Museum is a nature museum which showcase the ecosystem surrounding Mount Takao. Within which there are many interesting reproduction/replicate of insect/bugs, different types of plants/leaves etc that can be found in the Mountain, with good information on them. On the "NATURE WALL" there are various real-sized animals replicate and there’s even an hourly multimedia displays which uses projection mapping. We stayed to watch the animation which is really good & cool. Visitors will can get to personally experience the appeal of 高尾山 and its surrounding habitat.
There is a café where we can see the large lawn-open spaces outside. We ordered a hot pressed coffee & mocha cake, costing only 650 Yen. While glazing out to the open terrace-lawn with scenic mountainside as background amid a pleasant and relaxing atmosphere…
Thoroughly enjoyed the 1 hour visit & rest. Not forgetting it is free admission and Wi-Fi is also available.
The visit made us be more appreciative of the Eco-system that we are in and how that we should protect natural & the environment whole co-existing together.

Our trip to Takaosan was topped off by a visit to the 599 Museum. It is a beautifully designed building with a small but excellently presented exhibition about the local flora and fauna. It is free to go into the museum. There is also a small shop and a lovely cafe which has a limited menu but is a delightful place to sit and rest after the climb up and down the mountain.

Free entry, so we decided to have a look. Not much to see. Some exhibits of local wildlife and local plants.
